ONE of the stars of Boro's FA Youth Cup winning squad, Andrew established himself as the club's first team left-back during the 2006-07 season.

But it was on the left side of midfield that the Hartlepool-born teenager helped Boro beat Aston Villa to lift the 2004 FA Youth Cup.

Andrew, whose heroes are his Boro boss Gareth Southgate and Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand, has represented England at U17, U18 and U19 level. He was called into the Boro first team squad for the Premiership game against Bolton in April 2004. 

A hugely-successful loan spell at Bradford City in the 2005/06 season underlined Andrew's potential and earned him an England U21 call up.

On his recall to the Riverside he was drafted straight back into the first team squad and he was one of Boro's best performers in the 1-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat to West Ham at Villa Park in April 2006.

He deputised at left-back after Julio Arca broke his foot in the first game of the 2006/7 season at Reading, instantly becoming a fans' favourite and making the position his own.

He suffered a niggling foot problem which caused him to miss a large part of the 2007/08 season, but he was rewarded for his progress with a one-year extenson to his contract in January 2008, which keeps him at the Riverside to 2011.
