WHEN Jeremie Aliadiere signed a four-year contract with Boro in July 2007 he was considered one of the most exciting prospects in the English game.

Boro had been tracking the Frenchman for some time and finally got their man in a £2m deal from Arsenal.

He joined Arsenal when he was 16 and Thierry Henry described him as one of the most exciting talents he had ever seen.

Born in Rambouillet, France, Aliadiere was a produce of the famed Clairefontaine Academy, where the head coach stated: "The three best strikers to come out of here in the past 10 years have been Nicolas Anelka, Thierry Henry and Jeremie Aliadiere."

He made his league debut for Arsenal against Fulham in 2001-02, replacing Thierry Henry in a 4-1 victory, and scored his first Premier League goal in a 5-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion on August 27 2002.

His list of honours includes the FA Youth Cup in 2001, when he equalled Michael Owen's record for the most goals in a campaign with nine. He also won the Toulon Tournament with France in 2004 to add to the Premiership and two Community Shield medals he possesses.

But it was in the Carling Cup where the French U21 international made his biggest impact. He was named the best young talent in the 2003/4 Carling Cup, scoring four times in just three appearances and he won a runners-up medal in 2006/07 after playing a major part in a young Arsenal team's run to the final.

Coming to Boro gave Jeremeie the chance of regular Premier League football and it was one he greatfully seized.

While his performances impressed, goals proved hard to come by until a fine header against Manchester United at Old Trafford in October 2007.

He then hit the winners in 1-0 victories against both Wigan and Fulham within a few days early in 2008 but his progress was halted when he was harshly sent off against Liverpool at Anfield in the next game after reacting to provocation from Javier Mascherano.

He was forced to serve a four-game ban which was extended when an appeal was judged to be "frivolous" but he returned to score in a 1-1 draw against former club Arsenal in his first game back.

The 2008-09 season proved a frustrating one for Jeremie as he scored just twice in 29 Premier League games.
