Girls Teams Do Boro Proud
MIDDLESBROUGH Girls Youth section runs FA Charter Standard teams in age groups including U10, U12, U14 and U15s.
Here's a round-up about how their season has been going so far...
UNDER 10s
BORO Girls under 10s are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table in the Durham County Girls League.
The girls have enjoyed some fantastic results, starting out with a thrilling 5-3 win over fierce rivals Lumley.
They followed this up with a thumping 20-0 victory over Consett, and then a resounding 6-0 victory over local rivals Darlington Spaire.
The girls most recent match was a 10-0 victory over Ferryhill, which has cemented their position as the team to beat in the league.
Jess Quayle and Rebecca Lillystone have been scoring the goals for Boro and manager Richard Turnbull is delighted with the progress the girls have made.
"The girls have built on the excellent foundations they made last season, and I'm delighted with the team performances we have produced so far. Hopefully we will still be at the top when the season is over."
UNDER 12s
BORO Girls under 12s are also top of the table in the Durham County Girls League.
Under the guidance of manager Andy Robinson, the girls have enjoyed some great games, and have been getting the results they need along the way!
The girls results have included a 10-0 win over Consett, which was followed up with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Boldon Girls.
The girls then came from behind to defeat fierce rivals Lumley 2-1 in what was top versus second in the table.
The girls were dealt a blow when star striker Sophie Matthews was ruled out of action with a broken foot. However, they hope to have her back soon in the not too distant future.
However, Mary Barnard's return to action from a long-term injury has also provided the girls with a boost and she marked her return with a hat-trick.
UNDER 14s
BORO Girls under 14s are currently top of the table in the North Riding League, having won six games out of six.
The girls had to make the step up from seven-a-side to 11-a-side with confidence and their results have reflected this.
The girls' first match was a trip to local rivals California Girls, where they recorded a 2-1 win with goals from Sarah Thompson and Jess Round.
They then travelled to Kader, beating them 27-0 in the league and a week later scoring 20 past them with no reply in the League Cup.
This was followed up with a 7-1 win over local rivals Marton and then came their first home game in what was classic 'six pointer,' a derby match against fierce rivals East Durham and California.
With the Boro Girls unbeaten and East Durham having lost only once, a lot was at stake. However, Boro came out on top, winning 3-1 with goals from Katie Taylor, Sarah Thompson and Jess Round.
The teams are due to meet again in the League Cup semi-final in what is sure to be a pulsating game. The girls' most recent match was a 5-0 win away the New Marske.
The team have been in fine form and team manager Jenna Plews is delighted.
"The standard of football the girls have played so far has been breathtaking at times and we are determined to build on our great start and hold on to top spot until the end of the season," she said.
"We have made some new signings and had players return from injury and the attitude of the squad is excellent, with everyone gelling together and this is showing with our results on the pitch."
UNDER 15s
THE UNDER 15s have endured a tough time this season under manager Andy Cook.
They have struggled to find any form in the league, with some players moving up to the Middlesbrough Ladies Reserves and losing key midfielder Gemma Craddy to long-term injury.
The girls lost 9-1 to fierce rivals Boldon Girls in the League Cup, with Boro's solitary goal coming from Becky Stephenson. The team then had to play Boldon again a week later in the league, this time losing 11-0.
However, this scoreline was hard on the girls, who didn't deserve to lose by such a large margin.
The squad also lost to fierce rivals Lumley, again, losing to double figures.
The team has a backlog of fixtures to play with some games being cancelled and they are determined to pull together and find form soon under Andy's guidance
