Ladies Reserves Storm To Title
IT'S been a magnificent season for Boro Ladies Reserves who have been crowned league champions.
And the season could not have had a better start for the team with an astounding victory on the opening day.
A 23-0 win over Huntington Ladies saw them head straight to the top of the league table, where they have remained throughout the campaign.
In the months running up to the Christmas break, Boro were undefeated earning themselves maximum points with some fantastic performances.
Boro managed to score 79 goals and concede only 9 in this period, an excellent achievement at any level of football.
In the New Year the team continued to play at the high class level they had set themselves, only dropping two points in a match against East Cleveland in April when the girls fought hard for a well earned 4-4 draw. Coming from 4-1 down with eight minutes remaining it proved beyond doubt their overall skill and determination.
The match played on May 4 would determine if the Reserves could take home the title.
It was a fast, exciting, adrenalin filled game for the fans. Boro missed some early chances against a strong Sheriff Hutton side from York who had only suffered one defeat all season.
Sheriff opened the scoring when keeper Lydia Brown failed to hold on to a shot and the ball was tapped home.
Within minutes Stephanie Turnbull equalised and in the second half they took the lead through Sarah Patterson before Nicky Baker made it 3 -1.
Boro were now in control and but for some poor finishing should have sealed the game before Sheriff Hutton made it 3 -2 late on.
But the girls held on, sparking jubilant celebrations at the final whistle.
The team are now awaiting the result of other games to find out whether they can make it a league and cup double.
The coaching staff of Trevor Wing and David James would like to say a big thank you to all team members who have shown their dedication and commitment to the team throughout the season.
Special thanks to the top goal scorer Nicola Baker who finished top goal scorer with 43 League goals.
