Boro Ladies Back To Winning Ways
Salford Sports LFC 0 MFC Ladies 4
BORO Ladies travelled across the Pennines to Manchester for the second Sunday running, but a Nicky Duckling hat-trick inspired a comprehensive win to make up for last week's equally heavy defeat.
Boro had most of their senior players back on duty, although they were still without keeper Ami Bullen.
Defender Amy Laville bravely volunteered to go in goal and proved a very competent deputy indeed.
Boro got off to a great start with Nicky Duckling scoring a superb hat-trick in 25 minutes.
Her first came in just the fourth minute as she ran on to a through ball, beat the keeper to the ball and coolly slotted home.
Three minutes later she chased what looked like a lost ball, got to it first, rounded the keeper and slotted it into the net from an almost impossible angle.
Her third was another beauty after she beat two defenders and again slotted the ball perfectly into the corner of the net.
Sixteen-year-old Steph Turnbull, a recent signing, was unlucky in the 30th minute after a strong run when her low shot just went wide.
At the other end Amy Laville pulled off a great fingertip save to prevent Salford getting back into the game.
Salford came out strongly after the break but Boro's rearguard stood firm, with impressive and towering displays from Helm, Hauxwell, Hanratty and Radford.
But six minutes after the interval Jess Close, just back from injury, challenged for a cross and forced an own goal off the defender marking her to make it 0-4.
Salford forced a succession of corners but weren't able to convert any, while Boro also had further scoring opportunities with Manning, Foster and Lyle all going close.
"It was a satisfying, comfortable and well deserved win for a relaxed Boro team playing slick football," said manager Marrie Wieczorek.
Boro's next game is a night match on Thursday May 1, against Peterlee LFC at Peterlee FC, with a 7pm kick off.
The last game of the season follows on May 4 against Bradford with 2pm kick off at Hurworth.
*Boro are on the look-out for new players for either of their two senior squads for next season, as well as an extra coach to take charge of the Reserve team. Trevor Wing will move on to help with the first team, while continuing as club secretary. Anyone interested please call 0844 499 6789 and ask for Marrie Wieczorek.
*A depleted Boro side containing just five first team regulars lost 4-0 at Rochdale on Sunday April 13.
