MFC LADIES earned a plum Women's FA Cup fourth round trip to Chelsea as two superb Nicky Duckling goals gave them victory against higher league opposition in South Yorkshire.

Boro kicked off into a strong wind with driving rain but despite the conditions, began the game strongly.

The one division gap between the sides was never evident and Marrie Wieczorek's side took the lead in the seventh minute.

Striker Nicky Duckling, named MSV Player of the Month for November, struck with a stunning shot from outside the penalty box.

After bursting past two defenders and showing excellent close control, she slotted the ball into the far corner of the net.

Boro kept the pressure on, going close with a shot from Stacey Cutler before forcing three successive corners.

Wednesday then broke away and looked threatening, until a strong and timely tackle from Sally Mullen prevented a shot on goal.

Boro keeper Ami Bullen's handling was superb in very tricky conditions and she saved smartly from a snap shot in the 24th minute.

However, Boro were well on top now and causing the Owls endless problems and it was no surprise when they went 2-0 up just after the half-hour mark.

A fine through ball to Nicky Duckling was again finished with great aplomb when she beat the Wednesday keeper from just inside the box.

The home side came out for the second half looking more determined and they felt they were unlucky not to get a penalty when a cross bounced awkwardly and hit Mullen on the arm.

Although it was a let off for the visitors, it would have been a pretty harsh decision if it had been given.

Boro nearly scored again in the 53rd minute when a great ball from Abbey Lyle was collected by Becky Hanratty 14 yards out but she pushed the ball just too far ahead and the Wednesday keeper managed to save bravely.

Wednesday piled on the pressure but were unable to carve out any clear-cup chances.

At the other end Duckling and Cutler linked up well, with Kate Foster very strong in midfield.

Indeed, Wednesday were thankful to their own goalkeeper for keeping the score down to 2-0.

MFC Ladies received an away tie  to Premier Division Chelsea LFC in round four.

The London outfit are currently playing well and are mid-table in the women's highest division, with at least three current England internationals in their team.

The game will be played on Sunday January 6 and will be Boro's first game back after the break over Christmas and New Year.

"It will prove to be a real tough test but a challenge the whole squad are looking forward to," said Marrie.

Next Sunday MFC Ladies are back in league action against Caernarfon LFC.

The game will be played at Boro's Hurworth training ground with and not their usual Billingham Synthonia pitch.
