Ladies Enjoy Cup Success
TWO impressive wins have seen holders MFC Ladies cruise past Scarborough and Stokesley Ladies in the North Riding Ladies Cup.
MFC Ladies 9 Scarborough LFC 0
BORO had it all their own way in this North Riding Ladies Cup clash with their East Coast rivals.
The score was 4-0 at half time with goals from Stacey Cutler, Becky Hanratty, Abbey Lyle and Susan Badger.
The second half brought another five goals, three from Cutler, another from Hanratty and one from Clare Helm.
Boro only had 11 players available for this game, with late injury withdrawals from skipper Amy Laville and striker Nicky Duckling just before kick-off.
But Boro were far too strong for Scarborough and managed to see the game through without needing a substitute.
Boro's reserve team also secured a victory in their tie winning 4-2, which takes them into a highly unusual semi-finals against MFC Ladies first team!
Next week Boro travel to face top of the table team Curzon Ashton, who are unbeaten this season.
When the teams met earlier in the season, Curzon sneaked a late goal to win 3-2 in what was quite an evenly-balanced game.
But Boro will be without top-scorer Stacey Cutler and face a race for fitness for skipper Laville.
MFC Ladies 4 Stokesley LFC 2
HOLDERS Boro Ladies impressed as they cruised through their first game in this season's North Riding Ladies Cup competition.
Although Boro were without several players through injury - skipper Amy Laville, Becky Cartwright, Becky O'Brien, Jess Close - they welcomed back Stacey Cutler and started strongly against a lively Stokesley team.
In the 10th minute a good move down the right side saw Boro take the lead, when Charlotte Dinsdale scored from just inside the penalty area.
Just minutes later Boro nearly scored again, but the ball just went wide of the goal from Stacey Cutler.
Then in the 16th minute Boro keeper Ami Bullen pulled off a great save, diving to her left to keep out what looked a certain goal.
Just two minutes later Boro went 2-0 up when Stokesley's keeper was caught out of her goal area and Stacey Cutler hit a terrific 30-yarder into the roof of the net.
This seemed to spur Stokesley on as Boro eased up a little and slack marking in the penalty area led to the visitors pulling a goal back to make it 2-1.
But Boro continued attacking and played some good, controlled football but it wasn't until the 38th minute that they added to their score again.
A fine through ball from Abbey Lyle found Cutler out on the right, she controlled the ball and ran past a defender into the box before unleashing another ferocious shot into the top of the net, giving the keeper no chance of saving.
The second half started well for Boro and in the 47th minute they made it 4-1 when Cutler made yet another great run, this time down the left, cut inside past two defenders and squared the ball across the six-yard box for Susan Badger to scramble home.
In the 75th minute Boro made substitutions with Hauxwell and Cox going on to replace the impressive Cutler and Lyle.
However, Stokesley lifted their game and scored a second goal in the 85th minute when their centreforward was left completely unmarked six yards out and had a free shot past Boro's keeper.
"With most of our defence missing through injury, Nicky Ducklilng reverted from her usual striking role to deputise in defence and had a great game, playing a vital part in Boro's win," said manager Marrie Wieczorek.
