Mixed Fortunes For MFC Ladies
BORO LADIES last three games have brought a win, a defeat and a draw, with a toal of 15 goals scored. Read on for match reports.
MFC Ladies 2 Peterlee LFC 2
BORO began the game well and cruised into the lead in just the 13th minute.
A corner from the right was headed bravely into the net from eight yards out by Leanne Hauxwell.
The Teessiders continued to pile on the pressure and extended their lead in the 36th minute when a great through-ball from Cutler saw Becky Hanratty coolly slip the ball past the keeper from just inside the box.
Cutler, Dinsdale and Ducklling all came close to adding further goals but in the second half it all went wrong for the Boro girls.
Peterlee were gifted a goal in the 60th minute when one of their midfielders was allowed to run unchallenged and released a high ball over the back four.
Boro's keeper came racing out but was beaten to the ball by the centre-forward, who passed the ball into an empty net.
Then, with just three minutes to go, more slack defending throughout the team allowed Peterlee's centre forward to ghost past three Boro players to strike the ball into the net.
"It's a massive blow to Boro's hopes of climbing the table," said Marrie.
Hull City LFC 2 MFC Ladies 4
BORO travelled to bottom of the table Hull City with high hopes but it was the home side who dominated the early exchanges.
City took the lead through Rebecca Beech in the 13th minute but were down to 10 players eight minutes later when Hull's Bunton reacted to a strong tackle from Kate Foster, trying to kick and punch her opponent in front of the referee.
However, they rallied and went in ahead at the break and manager Marrie Wieczorek used the interval to replace the injured Jess Close with Becky Hanratty.
Boro started to play with some purpose at last and in the 57th minute they equalised with a fine free-kick from Stacey Cutler, only for Hull to take the lead again in the 73rd minute with a 20-yard strike from Charlotte Lewis.
The equaliser didn't come until 10 minute from time when Susan Badger beat the keeper from seven yards out.
Foster was tremendous in the centre of midfield, winning the ball and using it to good effect, and in the 85th minute Cutler raced onto a through-ball, beating the keeper from just inside the penalty box to make it 3-2.
Within three minutes Boro had claimed their fourth goal, Hanratty coolly slotted home from the edge of the penalty area for her first for the club.
"It was a valuable three points for Boro, even though their performance was below par generally, despite some good displays from Laville, Foster and Cutler," said Marrie.
Caernarfon LFC 4 MFC Ladies 1
MFC LADIES' longest trip of the season - a 500-mile round journey - ended disastrously with a crushing defeat.
Boro started off well but were stunned in the 15th minute when their young keeper, Lydia Brown, was sent off for handling the ball outside of the area.
A through-ball caught Boro's defence a bit square and Brown rushed out to clear, but instinctively blocked with her hands.
Skipper Amy Laville took over between the posts and just two minutes later Boro took the lead when Nicky Duckling, pictured, harried the Caernarfon defence to provide an opening for Stacey Cutler to smash home from 10 yards out.
But Caernarfon equalized when their impressive centre-forward outpaced Boro's defence to score from just inside the penalty area.
The second half proved to be Boro's undoing and three more goals followed for the hosts.
