MESSAGES congratulating Boro's players, management and chairman Steve Gibson have flooded in from all over the world since Boro's Carling Cup victory.

Before the final hundreds of you sent in goodwill messages, which were made into a book and handed over to sports psychologist Bill Beswick before the squad left Teesside.

The players read the inspirational messages on their journey to Cardiff before producing the performance of their lives against Bolton at the Millennium.
Now, as the celebrations continue, we're publishing your messages congratulating the boys.

We'll be making them into a book once again to be kept by the club as a permanent record of Boro fans' reaction to the game.

What a weekend. I'll carry the memory of it to my grave, one of the highlights of my life. At last, the press were nice to us and no more can the visiting fans shout that we've never won - anything! The three of us, my son Michael, son-in-law Dave and myself, were unable to voice any comments as we had shouted ourselves hoarse long before the final whistle. That final whistle brought a great moment of relief to all and we were crying at the end of the game, as I'm sure most of the red end of the ground were. It was strange, I was in a crowd of 72,000 and yet I was alone with my thoughts and memories of some 37 years of personal support of MFC, our MFC. My immediate thoughts were of my dad who died in 1963 after 32 years of fruitless support and whose only reward was to witness relegation to Division Two in 1954, I wished that he had been there in Cardiff but, I suppose, in a way he was because of me and Michael being there. We've all lived through the disappointments of missed opportunities but this game took us to new heights of pleasure. One of the highlights of my life.

The chairman of Middlesbrough Official Supporters Club, committee members and members would like to congratulate, Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren, backroom staff, players and every one at Middlesbrough Football Club for a wonderful day, a day that we will never forget.
Sue Bargewell, Publicity Secretary, MOSC

After having gone to three cup finals at Wembley and experiencing the disappointment this was even more fantastic. It was a wonderful day, looking around at the sea of red and white made me feel very proud and then to watch Gareth lift the cup was overwhelming. I am so proud of all of those at Middlesbrough FC, the players for the hard work they put in all the way through to the final and on the day as well as all the staff and management. Thank you all for at last making the dream come true.
Elaine McNicholas, Oxford

Thank you for one of the best and most memorable moments of my life. I was at the game with my Dad, my nine-year-old son Michael and my best mate Neil. The total release of emotion I felt at the final whistle is very hard to describe. Like many others we shed tears of relief and joy together with thoughts of my Granda Tot, who I know was watching over and enjoying every moment. Boro fans have an immense passion for their team. Thank you Boro for matching that passion.
Chris and Michael Oakes

Teesside, we're the future, we're the pride!
Mark Craggs, Brotton

What a day, what a weekend. At last 36 years of support and heartache gone in 90 marvellous minutes. This will now stand us in good stead for the next few seasons where I am sure that we will go on and gain more trophies and even more plaudits. Thank you to all the staff from Steve Gibson down to the club cleaners and more especially to Stevie Mac and the players. On that day you made an unemotional man cry tears of pure joy. Bring on next season
Nigel, from Down South

Superb stadium, super fans, brilliant team. Thanks to Gibbo, McClaren and the players for making history and removing that monkey off our backs! Wembley was our hoodoo but Cardiff should be our second home. Thanks to the people of Cardiff for a smashing weekend hope we see you next year! Bit disappointed with big Sam Allardyce's attitude slagging off the ref but we didn't gloat at the Bolton fans because we knew how it felt. Roll on the UEFA Cup, let's make it two trophies in 129 years! Proud to be Boro.
Gary Codd, Norton, Stockton-On-Tees

I'm dreaming this! All my life I've had this dream of the Boro winning the cup. My father had this dream before me. My brothers (and I have three), have dreamt of this Holy Grail for 50 years or more. Come the moment at The Millennium Stadium and me and my son and my brother were there! The emotion was palpable at the final whistle. The team were awesome in performance, we'll never forget every single player. Our brilliant manager Steve Mac has brought us to this triumph. A lot of people behind the scenes at the Riverside have worked passionately for the club and the supporters. But only one, and he is the only one, Steve Gibson, the biggest and best Boro fan has made all this happen for us. You are deservedly the Freeman of The Boro. Thanks for a lifetime of pleasure and well done.
The Sigsworth Family

Come on lads, that was classic, you were amazing. Honestly, I can't believe it. Gareth and Queudrue get that pen and get the contract over and done with now you've been fantastic all season. Congratulations to everyone, especially Southgate.
James

I just like to pass on my thanks to all the players of MFC and the staff at BBC Radio Cleveland for a unforgettable experience. I travelled over from Perth, Western Australia, without a ticket but managed to win one on the morning of the game in a quiz comp run by BBC Radio Cleveland and it was worth every last cent. Once again, thanks million for a truly unforgettable experience. Up the Boro!
Peter Cunningham, Down Under

What a day it was in Cardiff, typical Boro trying to let Bolton back into it but in the end we triumphed and deserved it. My mum had a bottle of champagne saved for the day we won our first trophy but unfortunately she was not here to open that bottle but I know she was looking down on us that day we finally did it. I was there with my best mates and my two sons and it was great to taste victory after following the Boro for over 40 years. I would like to thank the players, staff and of course the greatest chairman a club could ever have, Sir Steve Gibson. But my greatest thanks is to my wife for having to put up with me and then our sons while following the ups and downs of the Boro. Me and Ste standing on the old Hartlepool kop end in 1986 didn't think this was possible.
Christopher Ingoe

Congratulations doesn't say it! We three girls had the most amazing weekend of our lives. Me, my mam, Brenda, 69, and my niece Samantha, 13 (I took her to her first match when she was six years old!) were overawed and overjoyed. We were incredibly proud to be there and to be part of the day - we'll have that as a shared memory for the rest of our lives. My granddad, Tommy Wooton supported the Boro for over 80 years, and we're just sad that he didn't live to see the day. I think he might just have applauded quietly! We just knew we couldn't lose it - there was just too much emotion pouring out of the red end of the Millennium Stadium for that to happen! What a team and what a chairman! Steve Gibson is living proof that thoroughly decent, nice guys can win. Thanks.
Denise Collins, Brenda Quinn, Samantha Brown

Well done Gibbo, Stevie Mac and all the players and thanks for making my weekend perfect. After travelling all the way from Brisbane, Australia, for the cup final the memory of that weekend will stay with me for the rest of my life. It was a long way to travel but well worth it. Thanks again.
Trev, Lol, Holly and Poppy Harrington, Brisbane Australia.

Well it has taken 128 years, and it was well worth the wait, what a fantastic result, what a fantastic game, and what a fantastic day in Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium. The boys not only did themselves proud, but they did the whole of Teesside proud. It was an honour and a privilege to part of the clubs history and an honour to be there to witness them lifting the Carling Cup. Well done Middlesbrough Football Club.
Ian Motson, born in South Bank, now Coulby Newham

Moved to Oz in 1988 and first came back to Boro for the 97 finals managed to watch all but Spurs game out of last ten of the season including both finals and replays. Although I will never forget that feeling when Rav smashed home at Wembley and the breathtaking football of Juninho especially the first half against Man U, I still went back to Oz with no cup and relegated. I didn't dare come back the next year for Chelski but still we didn't win. This time though there was no stopping me and once again found myself back in the Boro with high hopes of this time. My dad and I scored tickets for 300 quid and made it to Cardiff. What a day couldn't believe the fans never stopped singing and the players gave their all. It was magic. Special thanks to Steve Gibson, you are a gem and now maybe we can conquer Europe. Well done Boro. Have got my first child on the way so I will probably watch on TV for a few years but I cannot convince the wife to name the child Juno, can't see the problem myself!
Andy C, Sydney, Australia

Well done lads! Couldn't be there but that didn't stop us celebrating. From the Boro lads serving in Iraq.
Anthony

For 50 years I have been following my beloved Boro - ever since my dad first took me to Ayresome Park in the first division. Through heartbreak and despair, and desperation of relegations and near extinction of the 80s, through the joys and expectations of promotions and previous cup final appearances. I sometimes thought I would not live to experience the pure joy of this historic Boro win. My American kids, who have been to Boro matches on Teesside and at Wembley, have become followers along with me. Although I could only listen by Internet radio on the day, I have savoured the joys of watching the tape sent me by another Boro fan here in the USA. The tears of happiness were streaming down my face as the final whistle blew and I remembered my old man who used to say, "Some day, son, some day....". Thank you Mr Gibson for your faith, vision and your backing. Thanks for the coaching staff and their dedication and planning, and, thank you to the playing squad for bringing us fans of all ages, all over the world a trophy at last! Champion!
Chris Ellis in Kansas City, USA, formerly of Linthorpe, Middlesbrough

I can now die without regret at not seeing the Boro win a major trophy.
James Gallagher, Adelaide, Australia

Just want to say well done team we were dancing on the ceiling at the final whistle.
Dave and Eileen Gibson, Perth, Austraila

My third trip home to see the Boro in a final (1990,1997 and 2004) and what a tremendous experience. I would like to congratulate everyone connected with club, especially Steve Gibson. After following the Boro for almost 50 years (30 of which I've lived in Canada) it now makes us all so proud. The greatest memory of the final was the total commitment and dedication of all the Boro players and coaches. That's what winning is all about. Thanks again. PS Next trip home European final, Boro v ???
Malcolm Corfield, St Catharines, Ontario, Canada

Fantastic! Hard work and loyal support won the day! Oh and a few lucky omens! In fact several. From the day we got to the final they were there. Dave's young lad got the Gareth Southgate sticker he had waited for to complete the Boro line up, when the tickets arrived we were in the same block as at home, East stand Upper, BT Cellnet stand, on the half way line! Last to be picked up on Saturday morning I nearly forgot the Champagne! We spent the hours before and after the match in the Borough public house! Peter, Julie, Stuart, Dave, Kev, Lawrence, Joe and me will be forever linked by a bond we forged in Cardiff!
Ailsa Murphy, Norton

We just wanted to say a big "Congratulations" to all of the players, Steve McClaren, Steve Gibson and all of the people behind the scenes at Middlesbrough Football Club for their cup final victory over Bolton. We had an excellent day in Cardiff, one that we will never forget as long as we live, the atmosphere there will never be beaten! It was so moving to see thousands of loyal Boro supporters both at the final and the Victory Parade through Middlesbrough town centre the following weekend, you've done us all proud lads!
Geoff, Joyce, Lisa and Becky, Malton

Woo hoo! Well done guys. Here's to Europe and the next cup. Come on Boro!
Darill, Newton Aycliffe

Congratulations Boro on a great game and a brilliant result. You have done your fans proud.
John Collighan, Tasmania, Australia

I watched the game on big screen in a pub packed with Liverpool supporters who had been in for their game earlier. I was in my Juninho shirt so was a marked man - especially after a mega leap in the air after two minutes! The game was great, but the tension was unbearable for me and all the Liverpool fans enjoyed watching me go through the mill - especially when the invisible man nudged the ball past Mark S. At the end of the game it was amazing&I stood in front of the big screen arms up...and they all applauded me! Magic!
Keith Scott, Chester

Sunday February 29 2004, a day that will live forever in the hearts of Boro fans everywhere. Many heartfelt thanks to Steve McClaren and the team, the Red Army who were a credit to Teesside, but most of all thanks to Steve Gibson for giving us a club we can truly be proud of. We have overcome.
Tommy and Pete Maggs, Eston Reds

I have always been superstitious. Sharon my wife never believes me, but when ever she wears red underwear Boro always win! So I begged and pleaded and nagged for her to wear three red items - knickers, bra and Boro shirt - bingo, we won 2-1!
Steve Lord

I would like to congratulate Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren, the backroom staff and the team. They will go down in the history books, but also in the hearts of Teesside fans, as the only team to ever fulfill the potential of Middlesbrough Football Club. Winning the Carling Cup is something that will stay with me, and many Middlesbrough fans forever, young and old. I will never forget that tingling sensation as Gareth Southgate lifted the cup for the first time. Thank you all, you have made everybody on Teesside proud. Now we shall stand tall, and show everybody the pride of the North East, no longer shall we fall in the shadow of Newcastle.
David, Stockton-On-Tees

Always was proud to say I supported the Boro and now I can finally say we've won a cup! Even though I live abroad now, my heart will always be there and I will cherish this moment as long as I live. Well done to all; the players, Steve McClaren and especially Steve Gibson, without whom this wouldn't have happened.
Jacqui Cauchi, Malta

Well done to one and all. What a fabulous day we all had, from one who has watched the Boro for 50 years!
Peggy Shakespeare

I've followed the Boro since my Dad took me to my first match in August 1962.
I''ve waited nearly 42 years to experience what winning a cup is like and what a great feeling it is now that it has finally happened. I'll never forget Sunday February 29 2004. The stadium, Boro's performance, the relief and excitement of all the fans at the end, the presentation, the lap of honour - outstanding. Well done to all at MFC and thanks for finally making my dream come true.
John Tilley

We were pinching ourselves after the first goal, we were ecstatic after the second and can't describe the feeling we had at the final whistle. Sorrow and tears for those who had passed away without seeing their beloved Boro at the hour of triumph, but total elation at witnessing such a fantastic result and to be in the company of heroes. Thanks to Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren, coaches, backroom staff and our fantastic players for making our dream come true.
Francesca and Ron Lynch, Nottingham

An amazing day, absolutely unbelievable 128 years in the making! We could not have done it without Steve Gibson - thanks for the world class team. Winners of the Carling Cup - a title to hold on to! Come on Red Army, keep on fighting!
Brian Briggs, Skelton

We'd like to say congratulations to the lads on a fantastic win and thank you for bringing the cup home to Middlesbrough. Nice One Lads!
Len and Greta, Middlesbrough

My beautiful team finally made it, and for this I am extremely grateful. As a Boro fan for the last 34 years my life hasn't been easy. I was born in Tromsø, Norway in 1966, and my life as a Boro fan started when Boro, on the September 26 1970, gave QPR a bashing with a 6-2 win at Ayresome Park. Nearly 25 years later I got to visit Ayresome Park myself when we won 3-0 over Port Vale. In November 2002 I also had the pleasure of visiting Riverside Stadium and according to tradition Boro won with me ringside as Liverpool was left at a loss for an answer to Gareth Southgate's goal. Unfortunately I couldn't go to Cardiff for the Carling Cup final but that's okay; the most important thing was that you guys pulled it off. Keep up the good work!
Ambrose Aronsen, Tromsø, Norway

What a great day, what a time to be a Boro fan. Forty years man and boy I've followed this team with my mum, dad and brother. Now it's with my wife and son. We were there at this club's finest hour. I would like to thank the players, the management and Steve Gibson for giving us our day in the sun. It was wonderful.
Keith, Julia and Michael Robinson

Well done Boro for your cup final win in Cardiff. I watched the final in Zurich, Switerland in the Nelson Pub. I could not believe the opening 10 minutes of the game but we managed to cling on. I hope the Boro make sure they make further steps forward in the future because with one or two top class strikers we could be one hell of a team. Steve Gibson you are the best and Steve McClaren has done a brilliant job since he has taken over.
Andrew, Zurich, Switzerland

My very best congratulations to all of you! It was an incredible match. Thank you all for unforgettable moments. But Gaizka, you have been amazing all season and so you was again in Cardiff!
Tuula Puhakka, Finland

I never thought that I would ever look back with enthusiasm at getting up at 2.20am on a Sunday morning. Yet that Sunday in Cardiff is a day that I will never forget, from the journey in the early hours to my last pint shortly before midnight in our Cardiff hotel. I remember the heartbreaks and frustrations like the FA Cup against Wolves in 1981 and the Simod Cup against Crystal Palace around 84/85 with a crowd of about 3,000 (I was there). I remember the numbness of that defeat at Shrewsbury and the trauma that was the summer of 1986. I also remember the joy at seeing the lads run out at Hartlepool to start the 86/87 season, the promotions that followed and the Wembleys - all four of them. Yet in all that time, like every Boro fan, I always felt that something was missing. Not any more. Words cannot truly express my feelings and gratitude towards Sir Steve Gibson, Steve Mac, Robbo (remember, he started it), and to those glorious lads in red and white who did the business in Cardiff. You were simply magnificent - every one of you. And Juni - you did it like you always said you would - thank you. Bring on Europe - but, please, not the Mackems - let me at least get off the A19!
Phil King, Redcar

Congratulations for a championship! You are a big team. Bye!
Thais

I remember the darkness in 86, but not as everyone else might. My memories come from my first Boro game at the age of eight, the first time I'd ever attended a football match. When Boro scored, I was plunged into darkness by the raised arms and hands of every adult around me. For a second I was dumbfounded, scared and clueless as to what was going on. Then I realised, and joined in with the celebrations! I'll never forget that moment, and at this time of immense joy for every Boro fan the world over, I'd like to say a big thank you, to Mr Gibson and all the staff and players at The Riverside for eclipsing that memory with a more monumental one - Carling Cup Winners 2004. Erimus.
Tony Forster, exiled in Bedfordshire

I'd like to say a big "thanks" for making a dream come true for me. Sadly I never made it to Wembley but who needs those memories when you've got the Millennium Stadium ones. Thanks again Gibbo.
Chris Atkinson, Stockton Reds

After 37 years I would like to say a big thank you for finally showing that we can do it. Come on the Boro and see you in Europe.
Marty Sharples, Middlesbrough

What a day! Brought a tear to my eye, was a brilliant match to watch. Well done to every last one of you, you've made us all proud to support the Boro! Cheers Stevie Gibson.
Alex Haralabidis, Redcar

Teesside and watching the Boro in the 70s and 80s - watching my best mate at nine years old come to school crying the day after we were knocked out of the FA Cup, hitchhiking on cold, wet nights along the A19 from Billingham to watch some drab game on a Tuesday night and get beat by teams like Stoke, after being at the Wembley let downs, seeing Juninho cry on the grass at Leeds and many other disappointments - I never thought I'd see this day. I was one of the lucky ones to be there - glory, joy, shock - sadness for Bolton - then more joy - happiness for Gibbo, the players and most of all, the Boro fans. Thank you Lord, oh thank you. Up the Boro!
David McKenna

Many thanks to Boro 2004 for giving me and my pal Rob from the Orkneys a weekend to remember for the rest of our lives. Having been to Wembley on four previous occasions and seen us miss out each time, I still find it hard to believe that we've finally done it. The Millennium Stadium, the people from Cardiff, McClaren and Gibson, all the Boro players, especially Juninho, the Boro fans and even the Bolton fans, can all be summed up in the one word my pal constantly said every time he opened his mouth "superb"!
Malcolm and Rob, Ingleby Barwick.

Just had my fiftieth birthday, what a present! Thanks lads!
John Chapman ,Ormesby

February 29 is a very special day. My partner and I were married on that day in 1984, so we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary, 20 years of marriage, in Cardiff to watch and to celebrate Boro winning the first major trophy in their history. I would just like to say thank you to my wife as many partners may not have been so supportive and understanding as she was on this day, but whilst I may have been married for 20 years she knows I have been in love with Boro for over 40 years. She was never interested in football but began coming to games in 1990, not the best of times but certainly not the worst and has been regular attender and season ticket older pretty much ever since. We made a full weekend of our anniversary celebration, with our 17-year-old son, had champagne to celebrate our special occasion alongside Boro's special occasion and will forever more have an even more special link with the Boro celebrating on February 29 for ever more. And for all those who think it is a shame we won't be able to celebrate the win every year, trust us because you can only celebrate it every four years it is all the more special because of it!
Thom Bradley and Jill Whiteford, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Well done all at the Boro in winning the Carling Cup, particularly the team on the day, Steve McClaren and of course Steve Gibson for his unwavering support of the cause. Thanks! When my 20-year-old son said it was the best day in his life that just about summed it up. A long emotional, entertaining day that for once had ended up in victory for the Boro. All of the years of almost, and not quite were thrown away in a massive throng of cheering, happy and sometimes disbelieving fans. At half time we went for the obligatory pie and a stretch. Looking around and listening to the comments, you would have thought Bolton were winning. This is typical of Boro fans after the years of frustration but no more, lets go on and become a real power in football, I'm looking forward to Europe already. The Millenium Stadium and Cardiff was a great advert of how a cup final should be organised and can be controlled in a friendly manner.
Bryan and Andy

I've supported the Boro since I was six, I'm now 42 and grew up in Ferryhill, where you can count Boro supporters on two hands. We've finally won something to be proud of, and I am, as I was at Cardiff, finally won a final, went home very drunk, had to apologise to my daughter because I couldn't remember ringing her up to share the experience I was having! But what a day! So thank you Steve Gibson, from the bottom of my heart, for saving my club, for building the Riverside (God Bless but Ayresome wasn't the best), for attracting first Bryan Robson (and many thanks must go to him) and then Steve McClaren, and allowing them to build what we have now, a cup winning side, on the road to something more spectacular and permanent (let's keep the rollercoaster to a book with special but hopefully never to be repeated memories). Thanks to Steve McClaren, I hope you are suitably proud of your achievements and hope that you stay with us to undoubted further success. Finally thanks to the players, for making a grown man cry, what a day!
Andy Rothwell, Oxford-based Season Ticket holder.

Well done to everyone at the club, from the players to the backroom staff. We had a wonderful weekend culminating in a brilliant win. Oh, how happy Teesside is now, finally on the list of winners. Every tear which shed was of joy and fond memories of all our family members and friends who had passed on without seeing this victory. I bet there was one big party in heaven that night! Thanks again and now let us finish the season with a bang so we can look forward to "away days" in Europe as well as Cardiff. Thanks also to all at Carling for memorable displays both pre-match and the final celebration. Well done and C'mon Boro! - the men of steel.
Joan McCreanor, Stockton-on-Tees

Congratulations to the Boro for a thrilling Carling Cup victory and best wishes as you build for the future.
Steve Olson, County Durham via San Francisco

Boro, you were just amazing! Cardiff was a fantastic day. I'll never forget the atmosphere, the scenes after the game, Boro's tremendous running team dive. I've waited 128 years for that moment, and I'm only 51! I just hope my Dad was watching from his seat in heaven. A special thanks to three of you - Steve Gibson, for everything; Steve McClaren for producing the best Boro squad ever; and Juninho, for showing the faith and the belief to come back a third time. More than anything, little feller, your smile summed it all up at the end of a superb day.
Clive Hurren, Adlington, Lancs

What a fantastic day February 29 2004 was, who could wish for more? Strangely enough, while waiting for our coach at 3am that morning, we were already discussing whether we would be able to make it to the victory parade the following Sunday. Not once that day did I feel that we, or rather the Boro, would return empty handed. Unbelievably that feeling was spot on. Now, when I walk my usual route through the local cemetery I cannot help but smile, somewhat poignantly, at the sudden appearance of Cardiff flags that have appeared on several graves. Well done Stevie Gibson and everyone at Middlesbrough Football Club for making our dreams come true.
Sheila, Dale, Laura and Sarah Wight, Normanby, Middlesbrough

Well done on winning the Carling Cup 2004, we are really proud of you! We were there watching you at Cardiff at it turned out to be the best day of our lives! We are massive Franck Queudrue fans, we think he is a brilliant footballer and he gives 110% in every match.
Jessica and Hayley

Well done Boro. Great day for everyone to do with the Boro, especially Steve Gibson. The guy deserves a knighthood. Hope you do well in the UEFA Cup. Good luck.
Andrew Davies

Thank you all at the Boro for a day that will stay in my heart for the rest of my life Cardiff was fantastic and the game was more than any Boro fan could have hoped for, a great big Well Done - true Boro heroes. Thank you again.
Andy from Boro, living in Plymouth

Congratulations to the mighty Boro - 128 years in the making and we've finally done it. Well done to Steve McClaren, Steve Harrison, Bill Beswick, Paul Barron and all the backroom team on what was a sterling job all round. Also, we mustn't forget the early work done by Bryan Robson who helped put Middlesbrough on the footballing map in the first place. But the real plaudits should go to one man and one man only-Steve Gibson. After saving the club from extinction, he has not only almost single handedly bankrolled the club, but has also epitomised emotionally as to what Middlesbrough is all about. A true fan who literally eats, sleeps and breathes Middlesbrough, this one is for you Steve. Well done.
Liam Cosgrove, Co Cavan, Ireland

Three Boro die-hards travelled from our homes Aberdeen to London - partied, London - Cardiff Sunday morning - train magic full of reds and a couple of whites, we partied together. Met friends, had Champagne before the game in Ha Ha's (who's laughing now?) in the city centre. Match, stadium amazing, staff and police spot on made us fell very welcome (Wembley should hang its head in shame) Yes, like many others prayers were said before, during and after. To all the folk around me in U3, thanks, you made it great. And yes I did cry, 43 years of emotion! After the celebrations, we partied again in the Borough pub Cardiff. Headed back to London, again train magic, another bottle of the fizzy stuff and a few other drinks along the way. Back in London three more bottles for good measure. Still waiting for the credit card bill coming in but who cares? Steve and the boys, thank you! You realise now what we needed to release the pain, we always held our heads high but now we do it in style. I will be getting the season ticket again Mr Gibson, at this rate the new tier will need to be added soon. My brother Ian lives in Long Beach California and last night finally got hold of me on the phone, he and the other two known Boro boys in LB discovered another ten they didn't know about on match day in the pub and have been partying ever since. The Gospel is spreading - keep the faith!
Neil Dalrymple, Paul and Gordon Compton

I don't think any Boro fan will ever forget the way it felt when that final whistle went. The memory of a great day out and a fantastic result will never fade. I'm sure I speak for all Boro fans in saying that at 2-0 up after seven minutes I thought I was dreaming, it was a very surreal experience, and I'm still living it almost a month on. You've made the whole town proud, which was fairly obvious from the parade! Well done lads and thank you for the two most memorable days of my life.
Simon, Newcastle

Congratulations on your win I have been a Boro supporter all my life. It will be great to see them in Europe next year. I hope you will bring out a video or a DVD so I can see all the celebrations I had to work on the day and the game was not on pay per view in my area. Congrats again Boro for the Champions League next season or even this season!
Steve T, sunny Phoenix, Arizona

I have been a Boro fan for nine years - since March 1995. These eventful years has included two promotions, one relegation and three lost cup finals. But finally a trophy has found it's way to Riverside. Thanks to the whole team, to the manager and to the chairman! I am looking forward to be following Boro for years to come in the future. Good luck in Europe!
Torgeir Riska, Sandnes, Norway

A day to remember, my son sitting looking at the TV screen in our local pub in Derby lost for words. A magical moment to savour along with the joy of a whole community, the video tape is safely tucked away. Roll on the sequel!
Ian Gill

What a lifetime of supporting the Boro! I'm 42 and my Dad, Stan Denham, is 70 years old. He's supported (lived for) the Boro all his life and he first took me when I was six years old. We've both been waiting for cup glory. Coca Cola Cup final - still waiting; FA Cup final - still waiting. Another bloody final - still waiting. Then came March 29 2004. Carling Cup final at Cardiff. He's getting on now my Dad and couldn't have bared it had we lost again. We didn't have any more time to wait. We wait no longer. My Dad can die a happy man now. So take a bow Steve Gibson and Steve McClaren. Take a bow all the players who made it a successful winning cup final. You have quite simply made my Dad's life. Thank you all.
Jane Mather-Denham

Well done Boro - that had to be one of the most exciting events of my life. It is definitely a day that will be proudly remembered, by all who watched our lads deservedly win the Carling Cup. Look out Europe, the Boro are back!
Jacqui Jayne, Ellon, Aberdeenshire

Quite simply the best day of football I've ever witnessed. The achievement of beating Arsenal (twice) to get to the final, the agony of getting the tickets for Cardiff, a week of nervous anticipation beforehand, driving into Cardiff at breakfast time and seeing a sea of red and white, an unmatched atmosphere inside the ground, plumes of smoke swirling towards the roof at kick off, the dreamlike two goals early on, banging on Job's brother's bongo drum, the numb feeling as Ugo "handballed" in the twilight moments, the last three minutes of total adrenaline, and then standing at the final whistle in floods of tears - the moment to savour. Victory.
Alex Fletcher, York

Cup final day was truly memorable for all the right reasons. Wonderful atmosphere, marvellous stadium, incredible first goal, nervous climax, final triumph. Everyone played well and the brilliant little Brazilian genius did everything but score. How often do you hear "Come on Boro" in High Street, Oxford? We did that weekend.
Peter and Daniel

I watched the 97 and 98 heartbreaks in Thailand, my home. In 2004 after much begging and pleading and the purchase of a season ticket, I watched the 2004 Carling Cup final in Cardiff. Into the ground after a few Brains and before the customary pre-match pint to look at the pitch and as we walked up Pigbag blared forth, tears then and more tears after seven minutes, and even more after 94. And a few days later to Albert Park to say "thanks" to everyone at the club. To those who read this and don't understand, here's what it means. I was in Singapore yesterday and a taxi driver asked me where I was from: "North East England," I replied. "Ah," he said. "Middlesbrough!"
Steve Budd, Ban Chang, Rayong, Thailand

We had a party on Carling Cup day as we didn't get tickets. It was a brilliant day and the team played class. We also had fun at the Riverside on parade day the atmosphere was great and everybody was happy and smiling. Thank you lads for bringing the Carling Cup to the Boro.
Jade Kirk, 11

Well it's been a few weeks since the match, but that feeling is still with me. The gang of ex-pat Brits huddled round the TV, snacks on the table and beer in hand. Then before the first sip of beer had passed my lips, we were one in front. The assembled gathering could not believe it (especially the guy from Leeds). Then as we were just getting over the excitement of the first goal, the second came. From then on we were all on the edge of our seats, what a game. Many congratulations to the lads for a hell of a final and a deserved victory. I can see only blue skies ahead (or should I say red skies ahead?)
Paul Cush, Klaipeda, Lithuania, (originally from Skinningrove)

What an absolutely fantastic achievement by all players, management and, of course, those magnificent supporters. I watched Boro at Ayresome Park for many years until I left for Australia in 1969. I saw many ups and downs between first, second and, on a couple of occasions, third division. Many great players have been and gone (Wilf Mannion, Brian Clough, Alan Peacock, Big John Hickton, Eric McMordie etc) but none of them were able to reach the heights that I sincerely feel this present team are capable of. How high from here? Keep up the brilliant work boys. The potential is there. Reach for the sky. Up the Boro!
Ed McTigue, Perth, Western Australia

How else could you describe the thrill that me and every other Boro fan had when we beat Bolton? Fair game to Bolton and their fans they did give us a fairly good game, but at last, we won! I couldn't get a ticket for the game so I had to sit and watch it on Sky TV and as I live in Norfolk there isn't that many Boro supporters around, so it was a relief when I could tell everyone the Middlesbrough had at last become a force to reckon with. I did make it to the parade afterwards though and I haven't seen so much happiness and joy on the faces of so many, it was a great experience. The Sunday we won was one of those days when you can ask where were you when Middlesbrough won their first cup and it's been 128 years in the making. My only wish now is that we can go on and conquer Europe. We have the stars to do it and we will do it, name me a better defender than Gareth Southgate or a better midfielder than Juninho. All we need is a goal scorer, we need to keep Bolo, Mendieta and Mills full time and buy a striker. But well done and please knight McClaren and Gibson. From the bottom of my heart, thank you and well done!
Kris Healey, Norfolk

Well done at Cardiff, you were amazing. Keep it up and we might get to the European Cup next season!
Nikki Mallory

Thank you so much. Winning the cup means so much to us Boro supporters and I will never forget February 29 2004. For once, I was speechless. I was, and still am, so proud to be a Boro fan and all those involved in the club will go down in history. Now lets prove to the Geordies and the rest of the doubting football world that we can make it in Europe. Well done, you deserve it. Thank you.
Beth Nesom, Guisborough

Well done lads. You have done the entire area proud. Cardiff was a magnificent place and was a brilliant day and hopefully we will get another chance next year to show our talent on another big day. I think we have enough quality players in our club to make a big push for the top five. Mark Schwarzer: What a player, must be in the top three goalkeepers in England. Gareth and Ugo: This is an unbeatable partnership, with these two next year we should do well in Europe. Mills: A superb right-back and I hope he signs next year, if not we have a superb replacement in Stuart Parnaby, who wouldn't let us down. Franky: Possibly one of the best left-backs in England and I think good enough for the France team. Mendieta: What a buy he is going to be, how did Steve pull that one off? Absolutely amazing in the final and hopefully the best is still to come. Boateng and Doriva: Another fantastic partnership, especially George, a magnificent holding midfielder. Both of them give 110% every game. Zenden: I was a bit unsure about him at first but these last dozen games he has come on form and shown how committed to Boro he is. Scored some class goals, a excellent left midielder. All five strikers: Maccarone is a good player and people should get off he back and support him. Ricketts is the same as Maccarone, people should support him as I think he's our only natural finishers. Christie: Another good player, unfortunately has been injured but should make a big impact next year. Job: A tremendous athlete who has given 100% to the Boro over the last few seasons. Nemeth: A good player like the rest of them who has scored some vital goals. The best player Boro have ever had is Juninho. What more can I say? A pure god! Now for the boss: The best English manager and the best we have ever had. None of this could of been possible without Steve Gibson an through and a true Boro fan!
Jack Hugill, Marske

It was the best day of my life and I will never forget it. The whole day I was buzzing and still am when I watch the goals back. Great job to all the players and Steve McClaren but a huge congratulations to chairman Steve Gibson. The players are all great and hope I will be seeing you playing for us next season. Thanks for such a great day.
Charlote, Skipton, North Yorkshire

Well done lads. I am a student currently working in America so I thought I would not see the game but thanks to Will at Monty's Korner in Rochester, New York, I managed to see my home town club win our first piece of major silverware! Up the Boro. I will never forget where I was that day!
Darren Byrne, Middlesbrough

Congratulations to Gibbo and the boys for a top weekend in Cardiff from the Boro crew in Jersey. Had an incredible four days there and looking forward to Europe. Big thanks to everyone in Cardiff for making it what it was, shows that Boro are worldwide and always will be. Come on Boro! Bring on Europe!
Mark (Redcar), Chris and Carl (Thorntree), Jersey Reds

At last! I was born in Ayresome Street and have been attending matches since Big Jack's promotion from Division Twp in the 70s. Since then it's been a bit of a labour of love following the reds. To be there at the final with my two sons was something special and to actually win it was indescribable! The sheer bedlam that followed the superb first goal will live with me forever and the wall of noise that followed the final whistle, well words fail me. If you were there you know what I mean. The fans were like an extra man on the day. Somehow all the disappointments of the past finals, the relegations and liquidation actually made winning in Cardiff all the sweeter. Get in!
Steve Fraser, Boro

Dear Mr Gibson, Mr McClaren and the team, Thank you for such a great weekend. I cried in 1997 when we lost the cup to Chelsea out of sadness but the tears were of joy in Cardiff. Life just doesn't get better.
Neil Ahitan, Middlesbrough

What an unforgettable and exciting day at Cardiff. The atmosphere was electric and it's a wonder the roof of the stadium wasn't lifted off at the end of the match. A day to remember along with the parade in Middlesbrough. Well done to all the lads. Congratulations to Steve Gibson and staff. I know the staff at the club worked really long hours sorting out tickets and travel. Well done the Boro!
Carol Parker and family, Thornaby

As a 14-year-old Boro season ticket holder I have to admit I cried with joy at the final whistle. I have never felt so many emotions in 90 minutes before. The goals were fantastic, the atmosphere amazing, and I can't believe it's actually happened. Onwards and upwards into Europe. The first thing my dad said to me when we came out of the stadium into the pool of Boro fans was, "I can't believe it, I've been to every cup final and your first one, we win!". It's all we talk about at school and a group of us went down to the parade to wave our flags and take photos of our heroes. We saw all our favourites including Gareth and Franck. We can't wait for Europe. Keep up the excellent work Boro!
Nicola, Smoggy for life!

Awesome! That's what us that used to stand in the Holgate affectionately called the old park. Now Awesome is the only way to describe everything about that momentous daytrip to Cardiff! From the build up to match and much screaming and hysterics (and a few more grey hairs!), to trophy presentation with hearts trying to burst out of chests with pride and more than a few tears in the corner of the eye! The week following, congratulation and much back slapping from every corner, followers of every team, big and small, "Well done Boro, that was a great game, you were Awesome!". And they're right, you know, that's how we'll remember everything about the Carling Cup 2004 in this house. Awesome.
Ross, Joanne, Rachael and Ashley, Belfast

Congratulations to all of you. You will never know how many peoples dreams you made come true the day you won the Carling Cup.
Danny, Somerset

What a fantastic day at Cardiff! A day and a moment never to forget! Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren deserve all the praise and plaudits we can heap upon them. But a plea to my fellow Boro fans - next time things aren't going so well, at the Riverside, at the Reebok or wherever, remember Cardiff, remember what our team have achieved for us. No more boo-boy tactics, get behind them. C'mon Boro
Jonathan, Bradford, West Yorkshire

Well done on winning the cup, you played the best match we have in a long time and definitely deserved to win. And good luck for next season.
Beverley Bartram

Well done winning the cup, it was worth waiting 128 years for. All the team played a great match and the celebrations after the match where really good. The parade through the town was excellent. And I think it's good that Stewy Downing signed a four-year contract, its good to see him in the first team. Good luck for next season.
Rachel, Marton, Middlesbrough

You guys are legends! Keep it up and let's see what we can win next season and prove to everyone that Boro aren't a force to mess with! Nice one guys!
Meg Bamber, West Yorkshire

Let us hope this cup win is the beginning of something special a new era for all who manage, play, coach, support and like myself follow the team. Up the Boro!
George Agar, Baltimore, USA (formerly from Grangetown)

Congratulations to the management, coaches and players of my hometown soccer team. What a memorable display! Special congrats are due to the chairman, Steve Gibson, who has retained the most faith in the cause.
Dez Burton, Houston, Texas, USA

Well done lads! Fantastic, if anyone didn't realise how much winning this meant to us, I bet you do now! The effort you put in that day needs to be kept up, for the sake of the people of Middlesbrough, the football club and Steve Gibson, a man more deserving than any I know. Let's keep this team together and hopefully, you, with us, can really go places together. So let's do it! Well done boys.
Glen, Beverly Hills, California

Hail to Boro! One of the best cup finals I had ever seen and this is the strongest Boro squad we had for a long time. Believe me guys, this is the start of many great things to come for Boro if Steve McClaren keeps the current squad intact. All players deserved the credits and I'm absolutely delighted for Juninho. Not to forget Steve Gibson, who has done a terrific job in the North East. Watch out for them in Europe next season!
Lee Jia Hwa, Singapore

Well nearly a month on and the memory of that great night hasn't faded one bit (nor will it). After 31 years of supporting the Boro, the dream has finally come true. Just think in years to come when someone asks a Boro fan were he was on Sunday February 29 2004, the many thousands of us all over the world will be able to recall every second, every moment, every kick of that incredible cup final in consummate detail. Congratulations to the team and management for a superb effort in winning the cup and to all those die-hard fans out there who follow the Boro with a passion which can only come from the heart! Up the Boro!
Andrew Pink, Perth, Western Australia

At last. The greatest ever Boro team give us what we've always wanted - our first major trophy. And our first qualification for Europe, too! We'll never forget. Thanks so much.
Jo Segell, Carlin How/Hong Kong/Sydney

I'm currently in Australia on a year out and found a bar to watch the game and was over the moon to see a superb team display, Schwarz play a blinder and show great character (much to the delight of the locals!) and Steve McClaren show why he's the best English coach around with outstanding tactical knowledge. He changed it round for us at half-time and put us back on the front foot. It was great to see how much it meant to Gareth Southgate after the final whistle and great to see a huge smile on Gibbo's face! Massive thank you to Steve Gibson for all the support, he's a legend and thanks to the lads for giving me bragging rights out here and giving all Boro fans a season to remember that doesn't end in complete heartache! Well done boys!
Simon Dodsworth

Thank you!
Clare Tremayne, Middlesbrough, but now living in West Yorkshire

Well done to the lads from Johno and the rest of Boro´s Barmy Army in Osnabruck Germany. Hopefully we'll get the Germans in the UEFA. Cmon Boro!Johno

128 years boys we've been waiting for this its a shame a lot of the old boys who told me all about the great Wilf Mannion have passed away if they had seen this they could tell people about the great Mannion and the cup winning side of 2004 and include the names of Juninho, Mendieta, Zenden and not forgetting our captain, Gareth the great, Schwarzer just making sure it was nail-biting enough, Danny Mills, Boateng, Doriva and Queudrue, Ehiogu all with hearts like lions and the sharp point out front, Joseph Desire Job. All 11 of you have gone down in history, we now don't have to listen to the Geordies waffle on about when they won something in 1796 or whenever it was. Well done lads, at last us Boro fans have something to crow about. I don't live up in Boro now but I still make the effort to get to see the lads when I can. Wherever I have lived I have always worn the shirt with pride but now I wear it with even more pride. And finally, two men who deserve the thanks of everyone who supports Middlesbrough Football Club, Steve McClaren and without a doubt the best thing to ever happen to a football club, Mr Steve Gibson. Thank you and well done!
Kenny Leonard, Leeds

Well done Boro! What a great weekend. I have been a season ticket holder for 10 seasons, I was so proud to witness Boro winning a major trophy. I will remember it for the rest of my life. Really emotional at the end, it's usually us as runners-up but when Bolton stepped up first, the tears started. Yes, this time we've won! Thank you Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren and the team. Let's look forward to Europe and next season. Up The Boro!
Red Book Holder Claire Bowdler, Redcar

Just been reading some of the messages already on the sight and I can feel all the emotion coming back! Thank you Boro for an unbelievable day, words can't say what this means to all of us. I hope after seeing our reaction in Cardiff and on the bus tour you can get some idea of just what our club means to us. We have waited patiently for so long knowing that one day this finally come and we would no longer have to put up with the scorn from the rest of the Premier clubs and Sunderland! Thank you to Steve Gibson, possibly the biggest fan of us all who always kept the faith. To the lads wow! Hopefully you will all still be with next season for more of the same. Don't know how but somehow I will be finding the money for my Season Ticket renewal and hopefully the odd European match. Oh how good it is to be a Boro fan right now!
Jane Brooks, Teesside

All I can say to the lads is well done, and a great performance. the fans were superb great atmosphere. Hope you can do this in Europe. Come on Boro!
Andrew Davies

I just wanted to say a big well done to the Boro boys or should I say the Carling Cup winners 2004? I have followed the Boro for eight years and I went to two of the previous cup finals and I can't tell you how happy it makes me feel to know after 128 years you have brought a cup back to Teesside. I was at the final and it was absolutely brilliant, it's something I will remember for the rest of my life. The Boro really did themselves proud and I am so proud to be a Boro fan. Get in there lads!
Lisa Thrower, Middlesbrough

What joy this much-deserved success has brought to a terrific family club. To achieve victory in such style particularly early in the game when some of Boro's passing was exceptional made it a really special occasion. It was a great team performance but for me Gaiizko Mendieta was the key Boro player. He had a field day and cut Bolton to shreds when given the chance playing on his own in acres of space out on the right. With such a jewel of player amid many other very good players, the future looks bright for a really well managed club. Congratulations to a chairman who sets the very best example and to the management and players on a wonderful achievement. This was all capped off by the fans through the atmosphere they created and their joyous reaction to a great victory. Bravo Boro.
Alan Coultas, Darlington

V V V good Boro. Can't believe it. Won a cup! So happy!
Julie, Ste, Adam and Jason Simpson, Yarm

Oh how I cried that day, it was enough to make all grown men cry. I seem to have been crying all my Boro life. Relegation to Division Three in the 60s, the near misses in the Charlton era, the cup replay at Wolves, 1986 and all that carry on, the ZDS Cup final, the Wembley finals, The Little Fella at Leeds. And now tears of joy, elation and yet sadness for all those fans no longer with us, especially my Dad, and my best mate Steve who would have loved this. Thanks lads - pass me another tissue pet!
Barney Coulton, Normanby

Thank you to everyone at the Boro for making my dreams come true. Many miles have been travelled following my beloved home town team and various modes of transport too, from hitchhiking to first class train travel. I regretted for years not travelling to Pisa for the Anglo Italian as I thought that I'd missed my chance to see Boro in Europe. Now, thanks to that memorable day in Cardiff which will be etched forever in my mind as well as on my skin no doubt in a drunken stunt, I can look forward to European games with the Boro. Special thanks to Gibbo of course, more than just a chairman. European football means more overtime to pay for it, but it's what I've craved for since I started going away regularly from the age of 16. Erimus!
John Donovan, Ingleby Barwick

Wow, what two days to be proud of - the game and the parade. Thanks to all the team (Juninho, you're a god) and everyone else involved. We are proud to be from the Boro!
Wendy and Lauren (9) and Jemma (7)

I'd like to congratulate everyone from the management staff to the players, backroom staff and also the supporters for winning the cup. What a pity I couldn't be at Cardiff to join in the excitement and celebrations. Tears of joy and relief flowed down the moment the final whistle was blown. It sounded so sweet! Mr Steve Gibson and Mr Steve McClaren, well done and keep up the good work!
Peter Lim, Singapore

Well done and all our congratulations to Boro on the wonderful, long-awaited victory in Cardiff. A huge thanks to the chairman, manager, backroom staff and of course the fantastic players for bringing home the Carling Cup! What an amazing display of support from all the fans that made the journey to Cardiff, such pride and honour. We went along to the victory parade and saw yet again an overwhelming display of support, passion and pride.
Andy, Karen and James Tate, Ingleby Barwick

I started supporting the Boro in 1967 when I saw my first match from the Boys End at Ayresome Park we lost 2-0 to Walsall in the old third division. I have been hooked ever since! Like all Boro supporters, I have always hoped for a major trophy success but never really thought it could happen. There is a saying voiced by many Boro fans in response to taunts about our previous lack of success: "Success is temporary but belief is forever and we believe!" Thank you Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren and the team for the most marvellous day in my life.
Mike Smitheringale, Stockton

Well done lads, as my late father called you, the Red Army. He would have been proud of you winning the Carling Cup and bringing it home to Middlesbrough. My seven-year-old son was very excited when he saw the players bringing the cup through the town on Sunday March 7 2004. As I say well done all the team and all the other people involved in the Carling Cup final.
Susan Morrison, Middlesbrough

I was buzzing when we won the Carling Cup final and I went to the parade and it was an amazing atmosphere at both of them. At the match you couldn't even hear yourself speak.
Michael

Absolutely brilliant, fantastic performance from all the players and the fans were brilliant as well. If Bolton had 30,000 fans in Cardiff there must have been 45,00 Middlesbrough fans in that city. Stevie Mac's hard work has finally paid off and a special mention to the finest chairman in world football. Steve Gibson, thank you for what you have done for Middlesbrough Football Club and of course the town and region, you lead the club magnificently.
Garry H, Peter B, Nick O, Lynn B, Paul R, Kendra S, Spike D, Roger B, Joe S

Well done to the Boro for the win over Bolton. Keep up the good work and good luck to you all.
Jenny Norman

I'd just like to say well done to Boro for winning the Carling Cup and your Parade was really good at the town and there were more people than I expected!
Faye, 11

Well done Boro! Congratulations first to Steve Gibson for his tenacity as chairman. Steve McClaren has done a great job at the Riverside by fashioning a committed and atheletic team and ALL the players-particular mentions to Schwarzer (who showed immense character) Southgate and all the defenders, Mendieta, Juninino and Zenden. Cardiff was a brilliant day out and has helped to wipe away the memories of 97 and 98.
Richard Bucknall, London

Well done Boro for winning the Carling Cup. It has been a long time coming for us die hard fans. Keep it up boys. Up the Boro from Down Under.
Maurice, Australia

What a week this has been for me. The most memorable in the whole of my footballing life. Thanks to you, Mr Gibson, Mr Lamb, McClaren and all the staff and players at Middlesbrough Football Club. I am so proud to be associated with MFC, the disappointments over the years have been totally forgotten and now we have won a major trophy, things can only get better.
Richard Morgan, Thornaby

It is now a couple of weeks since Cardiff. But I still haven't really come down again. I have followed the Boro since 1952 and just want to thank Mr Steve Gibson for what he has done for our club.
Gordon

Well done to the lads for doing us proud in Cardiff - our little boy can wear his Boro hat to school with pride and knowledge that the Magpies are positively green with envy (although they'll never admit it of course)! The parade was fantastic and well worth the three-hour wait - we're still on Cloud Nine! Thank you all. Come on lads - show Europe a thing or two!
Claire, Colin, James, Eleanor and Alexander, formerly of Marton now living in Newcastle for our sins

Well done Boro! I cant believe it the players were amazing at Cardif and at the parade. I would just like to say well done to all the players and to Steve McClaren, Steve Gibson and all the coaches. Boro played amazingly and we deserved to win so come on Boro and once again, well done to all the players especially Franck Queudrue.
Rachael

Excellent game, Brilliant result, Fantastic weekend and very emotional parade. Memories never to be forgotten. Well done to the whole squad. Look forward to Europe.
Alan Prest

I just want to say well done and great playing in the Carling Cup. My whole family and school went mad. I even waited at Asda for two-and-a-half hours just to see and get my photo taken with the cup. I watch every game home or away my favourite players are Franck and Juninho. Franck played well and he is also very good looking.
Jayne Bolam

I have been a Boro fan all my life, despite living in the Midlands. What I saw in Cardiff filled my heart with joy, there are no words to describe it. The whole team did us proud, there was no way they were going home without that trophy. Lads, you all deserve the success you have achieved. Juninho, the smile on your face at the end of the game said it all. Bring on Europe!
Debbie

After 40 years of following the Boro (I'm only 44), the cup win is still sinking in. The emotion in the stadium when we scored the first goal was fantastic and after the second goal we thought we were dreaming. The wait for the final whistle was agonising (memories of Leicester) but when the ref blew it was unbelievable. My son and I travelled from Belgium for the final and memories of the day will remain with us for the rest of our lives. Thanks to the team, the manager, the fans and most of all to the chairman, Steve Gibson.
Tony and Anthony Dutta, Waterloo, Belgium

Winning was much more than just about football. It was about pride in our home of Teesside and confidence in ourselves. It is a two finger salute to all the southern press who constantly knock us. Thank you to each and every one of the players and staff and especially Stevie Gibson. Thank you Cardiff, you helped to make February 29 2004 one of the best days of my life.
Alison Rigby, Billingham

Yep a job well done, I can now let my finger nails grow back. A special mention to Mark Schwarzer , well done mate we are all proud of you back here in Australia. Go the Boro!
Derek Lowes, Adelaide, South Austalia

Not knowing many Middlesbrough fans from Newport in South Wales what a fantastic surprise that my husband (who, by the way, is a Spurs fan) got us tickets for the cup final. I would just like to say what a fantastic time we had. My husband said the fans did us proud they were a credit to the club. As it was my birthday also winning made it a doubly special one that I will not forget. To top off the day we had a few drinks with lots of the supporters who were very surprised to find a fan so far from home. To top off the fantastic day as the team bus left we had a wave from Steve and the boys. I will not be able to get to the victory tour but we hope you have a great day I know the people will enjoy it. Thanks again for a fantastic day, from here I hope things will only get better.
Mrs Jaki Rees

Words fail to describe what it actually really means after years of ups and downs. It's like you want to keep living in the moment - watching the match over, reading the reports, looking at the pics - like it's still a dream - but one you don't mind waking up from for once because it's our reality this time! Fab day - too many heroes to ention, too emotional and too fantastic an experience to describe. It just makes us hungry for more - come on the lads!
Phil

Well done Boro, I'm so proud of you all you deserved it all, of you! And you also deserved the victory parade you got. Hope you all enjoyed it its been a happy two weeks in my life, especially when Franck Queudrue caught my kiss yesterday at the parade! I have experienced the slowest four minutes of extra time in my life though. Well done!
Louise Dodgson

Congratulations lads! Just wanted to say how thrilled I was to be there at Cardiff when Boro lifted the cup. It was the best day of my life so far and I am really pleased we did it. As a season ticket holder I hope to see more trophies coming home to the Riverside. My Man of the Match was Danny Mills. My favourite player of the game. He was all over the pitch and tried his best to get us that trophy, well done to job for the incredible goal in the first two minutes the fans were so shocked when it went into the net so quickly! The parade was also incredible, the players got into the spirit and just like the fans I'm sure they will always remember it. I had my picture taken with the cup, which I was also so thrilled about, and Danny Mills waved to me which I will never forget. Well done all at Boro, I will never forget the day that Boro won the Carling Cup! Extra praise to Danny Mills, well done and please stay with us at Boro!
Rachel Bennett, Teesside

I would just like to say I am so proud to be a Boro supporter. When I was at Cardiff I was in tears, it was the best day of my life. Thanks to the players and the chairman and the manager. I am only 13 and I have been a season ticket holder since I was six and I love the Boro 100% and Franck Queudrue, I love him to bits.
Kirsty Alderson

Well, what can I say? It has been a long time since I felt so much emotion in 90 short minutes (although it felt like hours at the time). Even my husband is not scared to admit that he cried at the final whistle, to see his beloved Middlesbrough Football Club lift that first elusive cup. Boro you are our pride, our passion, thanks for the great weekend in Cardiff, thanks for doing what you do.
Marie Fawcett, Billingham

Come on Boro! I just want to thanks to the boys for Sunday, living in the south of England you'll be pleased to know that even in a small town in North Hampshire, we still managed to gather together about 12 Boro fans to watch the game at the local bar, and we did us proud in one guy in particular drinking his weight in beer! A day I'll never forget and here's to many more in the future!
Hazel Ryalls, Fleet, Hampshire.

Remember when the ball fell to Mendieta after one minute and 35 seconds, everyone around me rising in anticipation. I couldn't see properly what was happening down at the other end but you could feel something big going on! Next thing I remember was the net bulging and everyone going mental. And that was when we all knew that there would be no stopping the Boro that day. It was a moment I feel very lucky to have experienced. Thirty thousand ecstatic people. Magical.
Ben, Middlesbrough

I would like to say thank you for winning the cup as my father never saw us win anything major in his lifetime. I have been a supporter since 1958 had the privilege to see Brian Clough but we still never won anything. Many thanks to the team and staff. Let's go for a higher place in the league.
Alan Rea, Eston

Just like to say well Boro on winning the Cup in Cardiff. I was listening to the match on Five Live on the Internet and was a little overwhelmed at the end of it. It's a shame I was 5,000 miles away but I was there in spirit. Let the good times begin! Well done again.
Chris and Kat Hynes, Burlingame, California

Well done lads, thanks for making Sunday February 29 the best day of my life and will live in my memories forever. Hope it's not too long for another major trophy. Come on Boro.
Chris Fountain, Redcar

Dreams have come true! Although my husband and I were quietly confident that it was going to be our year, nothing would prepare us for the emotions tidal waves that came after the final whistle. Boro deserves to go places and we are just thankful it happened during our living days. The fans were fantastic, the team superb, stadium first class, it was a perfect day to sum it up. Many thanks to Steve McClaren, all the players and of course the one and only, Mr Steve Gibson. Don't ever underestimate what you've achieved because you've made everyone who is associated with Middlesbrough very proud. Proud to be Boro fans! C'mon Boro!
C and R Knights, Edinburgh

Well done Boro! A well deserved victory, you were fantastic. It was the best day of my life and the memories I have from Cardiff will stay with me forever. Bring on Europe! Up the Boro!
Jo, London

An incredible weekend - an unbelievable outcome. Hugging my 70-year-old father in the stadium at the final whistle, tears flowed. They were for him, he witnessed the Boro win something, a dream for so long. My elated emotions can only be bettered by the joy I get from family - that is what February 29 2004 means. Thank you Gibbo, Steve and all the players. Fantastic.
Clarky

Bitterly disappointed at not being able to get tickets for the final, but your performance and the result meant those feelings were replaced with pride and delight. Congratulations and thank you to the history-making squad, Steve McClaren, the backroom staff and, of course, Steve Gibson. We've followed you through thick and thin and are now looking forward to plenty more of the "thick" from the 2004 Carling Cup winners (still sounds good doesn't it?). Good luck in Europe next season. We'll be there. Come on Boro!
Gary, Nige and Lee, The Blackpool Boro Boys

Congratulations to everybody at the club.
Eric Smith

Well done lads! At long last! It has to be the most memorable day of my life. Congratulations also to all supporters at the game for their outstanding conduct. Prouder than ever of Middlesbrough. Can't be at the parade but I'm sure the boys and fans alike will have yet another great day. Well done. Up the Boro!
Emma Gillespie, London

Just wanted to pass on my congratulations to the lads for a brilliant performance and victory. Juninho is an absolute legend and is the reason why I started supporting the club back when he signed first time round. Congrats from the North East of Scotland.
Iain Massie, Aberdeen

What a fantastic day for everybody involved in Middlesbrough Football Club and the local area. I travelled to Cardiff from San Diego, California just to see the Boro and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. The players were incredible, the atmosphere electric and words cannot describe how proud I am to have been a part of this famous day. Thank you to everybody.
Emma Gray, San Diego, California, USA (Originally from Loftus)

I was completely over the moon when we beat Bolton in style. I was literally crying when we won in the Millennium Stadium on February 29. I was really pleased with the Boro boys against Bolton.
Jamie Wadsworth

I was born in Middlesbrough, heard the roar from Ayresome Park before I was old enough to attend a match. I was a season ticket holder for a few years, with Jack as the boss, I was dragged onto the side of the pitch during a cup match with Man City due to being crushed. This is the greatest victory in my years of support, all I can say is thanks to Steve Gibson and all of the Boro squad who made it possible, I no longer live in England but follow you every week, my son who has not seen Middlesbrough will support you too. Here we come Europe!
Keith Bradburn

Thank you to all involved on Sunday as I had the best day of my life. When the final whistle blew I cannot contain myself and just burst into tears as did everyone around. I have never seen so many Middlesbrough hardmen sobbing like babies! Well done Boro we deserved it. Lets go for the UEFA Cup now!
Linzi S

Congratulations on a wonderful team effort! You have finally shaken the monkey of your backs. Now with confidence and strength show England and Europe you are a team to be reckoned with. Use the joy wisely to fuel the engine of your desire and become one of the new powerful teams of Europe. Well done lads!
Ian Spenceley, Perth, Western Australia

Well done boys, you were terrific. I have never been so proud to be a Boro supporter as I was Sunday 35 years in Canada and I still miss going to the games on a Saturday. I would like to thank Dave Allan for showing my brother and myself around the Riverside when I was home last year, it was awesome. Next year Europe, wow! Up the Boro!
Bernie Griffin, Ontario, Canada

What can be said? Congratulations to all at the Boro, from Mr gibson to the tea ladies! What a day, I wasn't at the game but was cheering you on from my living room - will be making the 400-mile round trip for Sunday though! Congratulations, you have done us all proud!
Gemma

I've seen a lot of Boro games in my life and I'm only 12, but in the final it was the best game I've ever seen. Well Done!
Matthew Welch, Surrey

Fantastic, that is what Sunday was. Fantastic weekend all round. Well done the Boro, the long wait is finally over. Roll on Europe.
Trevor Bailey, Ferryhill, member of Sedgefield Supporters Club

Thank you Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren, all the players and everyone connected with MFC for some wonderful memories.
Anne and Richard Blood

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. The best day of my life as a Boro supporter. I still can't wipe the smile off my face. I'm getting married on March 27 - what a great wedding present from the club! Congratulations to the players, the manager, the coaching staff and the chairman. You all deserve your place in the history books. I couldn't get a ticket to the match but have to mention the fans who were there. Even on TV, the atmosphere created by the Boro fans during and after the game was terrific. They did the club and the town proud. The best bit is the excitement and belief that the club can really go on from here. Come on Boro!
Al, former neighbour of Ayresome Park

When I was at Highbury for one of the Boro matches in January, I met a man from the Chinese Embassy in London - you meet all sorts at football nowadays - who told me that Chinese television still shows the scenes of desolation among the Boro fans at Elland Road in 1997, on relegation day, as a lesson in how to accept defeat and disappointment with dignity. I told him we've had years of practice. Now, thanks to the magnificent performance of the team on Sunday, we've been able to show the world how the Boro fans greet victory, with pride, relief and pure unadulterated joy, but with no gloating or arrogance. Thanks must go to the team, the management and the chairman but my abiding memory of Sunday is of the awe-inspiring community of Boro fans.
Peter Walford

Well done lads you've done us proud, the trip to Cardiff was well worth it! Only one thing could have made the day better - if Juninho scored. Oh well, the cup is ours and so is Europe! Up the Boro!
Becky Lawton, 15, Colchester

I am 14 years old and I went to Cardiff. I have Boro hearing aids in my ears because I am deaf. I was crying my eyes out when we won and broke my flag. But I am happy and excited that we won and I am hoping to see the lads on the open top bus with the cup we have won. We are the champions, we are the champions, no time for losers, we are the champions. Come on Boro! I have been following Boro around for nearly 15 years now. I loved them when I was little. One of my first words was Boro. Come on lads keep it up and congratulations after 128 years of trying, we have got it.
Alex, Stockton

Well done Boro, you were fantastic! I can't believe we won. It's just a shame you didn't bring Stewart Downing on as he's my favourite player. Cardiff was good too. There was no trouble either, which was good. Thanks Boro for the best day ever, I'll always remember it!
Gemma Rayner xxx

What a brilliant result on Sunday. After going two goals up in seven minutes, the result was never in doubt. The current Boro defence rarely concedes two goals in a game. Having been a Boro fan for almost 40, the Carling Cup victory is really sweet and I'm sure its the first of a lot of silverware on its way to the Riverside. So well done Steve Gibson for his faith, well done Steve McClaren for his tactical genius, well done the team for the performance and well done all the Boro fans for the continued support through thick and thin.
Garry Bradley, Somerset

Well done lads, absolutely immense performance. The man who deserves all of the credit is Steve Gibson for building a good side. Also well done to Steve McClaren giving the fans something to cheer about. Let's make a name for ourselves in Europe - eio, eio!
Adam McCabe

Thank you for one of the most memorable days of my life and let's hope that it is the start of something even greater to come. The Boro deserve to be up there with the best and hopefully this will spur us on to bigger and better things. Good luck for the rest of the season and see you on the road to Europe!
Becky Brooks and Reena Ruparelia, Staines, Middlesex

We receive your newsletters from our daughter who is currently travelling in the Far East. As a loyal fan she couldn't bear to miss the game. Having spent three years in Cardiff studying for her degree this was something she couldn't miss. Well done to everyone at the club for making history and making us proud to support such a great club.
Rev Malcolm, Alyson, Kate and Sarah Tonge

That was truly the best day of my life, this will live long in the memory, putting to rest the bad memories of past finals. Seeing Steve Gibson's face up on the big screen ten minutes from time and the reaction of the Boro fans summed it up for me amazing! Well done Boro!
Stephen Bell, Leeds

I live in South Africa and have supported Boro since seeing them play Man City in 1976 - the first and only time I have seen a live UK match. Not being fickle, I have stuck by the Boro through thick and thin - now I believe the tide has turned. You have done us proud, let us see more of that over the next few years. Congratulations from a loyal far away fan!
John Folster, Johannesburg, South Africa

Fantastic, what a day, totally deserved by the way we played, it still hasn't sunk in. The atmosphere in and around the ground was thrilling something I'll never forget, Thanks lads.
Martin Cundy, Darlington

Thanks to everyone at the Boro, I can't stop smiling! You boys were Boroilliant. You've made me so proud....words fail me!
Rob Smith, Sunny Darlington

I am an exiled Boro fan living and working in the Caribbean. I was so happy on Sunday. I am still buzzing. I had to talk the local pub landlord to buy the event as a pay per view. I offered to pay half. The match cost me US$125. I was sat in the pub at 8.30am with my girlfriend, a pint of Guinness, my Boro shirt and nerves like you wouldn't believe. I am so proud of the club, proud to be a Boro fan and proud to be from Middlesbrough. I bet I hold the record of the best post match party. A beautiful beach, a beautiful sunny day and the biggest smile! Thank you so much for the precious memories.
Phil, Turks and Caicos Islands

Thank you from New Hamburg, we watched in awe and admiration.
Tony Diamond, Boro born and for life, Canada

Thank you for making the cup final a day never to forget. Make sure you keep going and help the club get bigger and bigger.
Bronia and Neal Baker

What can I say? Absolutely brilliant, keep up the good work and let's hope for more days like Sunday. We love you Boro.
Michael Smith

Dear the greatest team in football, Thanks for doing me very proud in every way, congratulations!
Jon O'Keefe, West Australia

We would just like to say a big thank you to the Boro players, the backroom staff, Steve McClaren, and not forgetting the main man, Steve Gibson, for one of the best days of our lives. We had a fantastic day, the Boro fans were at there best, we out-sung the Bolton fans by a mile, we knew we were going to win this cup, our name was on this from day one. And I would like to say to all the so called football pundits who said Bolton where too strong for the Boro, stick that in pipe, you were wrong big time, we were awesome.
Anne, Peter, Jim and Chris McGuinness, Red Book holders, Marton, Middlesbrough

I am not, nor or have never been a Boro fan and am very unlikely to ever support you guys - but I have to say you thoroughly deserved your cup win last week. It's great when someone other than Arsenal, United or Liverpool win things. Maybe one day my Gillingham team will win a cup. Well done, just goes to prove you don't have to be the biggest club in the world to win a major trophy. Steve McClaren is a great manager and who knows, maybe next year it'll be the Premiership. Well done.
Dean Baxter, Gillingham

What a fantastic win. The first goal was out of this world. I couldn't believe we'd gone 2-0 up after eight minutes. Now to conquer Europe. I just hope we can keep the same squad together for next season, especially Bolo and Mendi (I'm a big fan of Bolo). Can't wait to but the video to watch it again!
Jean Harrison, Accrington, Lancs

Just a quick note to say well done lads, you have done us all proud and made a Boro fan living in Newcastle the happiest man alive! Bring on Europe. And PS Gibbo, whatever happens, make sure you keep hold of Zenden and Mills, they have been total stars this season.
Darren Jones, Wallsend, Tyne and Wear

History was made and you should all be proud of yourselves, I know we the fans were. Lets hope this is a platform for even greater things. Thank you for one of the best days of my life. Come on Boro!
Chris Blowes

A big thank you to all the team and staff for making Sunday one of the best days of my life, at the final whistle it was just ecstasy. Well done the Boro.
Danny Ruddock, Redcar

As a lifelong Boro fan who now lives and works in Bolton, what a week I've had! Cheers lads, I was born a Boro fan and can now die a happy Boro fan. As for Juninho, it really is third time lucky.
Stuart Wood, Egerton, Bolton

With 20 minutes left I said a little prayer and just hoped, for once, that he would answer me. On Sunday there were 12 giants who answered my prayers, I can't comprehend just how big this is, I just know it'll never happen again and I was there. Thank you Steve Gibson, thank you Steve McClaren, thank you Middlesbrough FC. "If we are together we cannot fail" (Winston Churchill). "We'll always be together".
James Keen, still hungover, still at work in Huddersfield, still dreaming of Cardiff

Well done boys. You were all amazing out there on Sunday. My hero of the day though was Mark Schwarzer. I really felt for him when he made "The Mistake". What he must have thought when he saw that ball hit the net! To be emotionally drained by a disaster like that, and then to come back like he did was unreal. Let's face it, if it wasn't for him, we would have gone in maybe 4-2 down and that would have been game over (probably). Many other goalkeepers would have dropped everything after that. Good on you Mark, you deserve all the praise you get.
Matty Morgan, Thornaby

Well done lads, we said all along that you will win it you are the best and keep it up and win, win, win! Well done lads, we are so happy for you, you all worked hard to get it.
The Lindoes, Hartlepool

I was maybe 2,000 miles from the action here in Munich, Germany, but I felt all the emotions - delight at the fastest ever League Cup goal, nervousness as the penalty was lined up, despair as a goal was conceded, and then the tension, building, especially with four minutes added extra time as it drew closer to the moment of sheer ecstasy, when the final whistle brought a release of all the earlier disappointments and setbacks and made a grown man cry. Thanks for the memory, which will live long with me, and to let you all know how proud I am to be a Boro supporter. Come on Boro!
Mike Garbutt, originally from Loftus

We have finely done it after 128 years we are the new Carling Cup champions and we are in Europe we can go on to big things win more trophy and might get into the Champions League. Now we can bring big names to the club let's bring Zenden and Mills to the club on a full time basis and let's go for Rivaldo!
Lee Oldcorn

Congratulations boys, you finally made it to the silver. I knew it would happen and you have made the people of Middlesbrough unbelievably happy. You did it and we knew it! Well done to the Red Army!
Michelle Ward, Grangetown

This has to be the greatest day in the life of any Boro fan. Emotional, rollercoaster, nail-biting and edge of seat stuff - typical Boro - but we did it! Absolutely fantastic! I'll wear my Boro shirt with great pride in my adopted Midlands - can't wait for Europe. Thank you so much to the players for giving a Boro die-hard a day he'll never forget.
Chris Dodds, Shepshed, Leics

To the team and the staff who support/guide/assist you. We passed the Boro team coach on the way back from the semi-final at Old Trafford and did our best to cheer up the players. Clearly that would not have been necessary on Sunday. Thank you for a wonderful team performance. Thank you for making so many dreams come true. Thousands of grown men were proud to shed a few tears of joy and relief. Well done and thanks to those players who contributed in previous games but did not play on Sunday. Those cheers were meant for you too. I will never forget that my family and I were there on that great day!
Carole Pattison

A huge congratulations to all the players, to Mr Steve McClaren and let's not forget the reason this was all made possible, Middlesbrough FC chairman Sir Steve Gibson. You all made for a day which will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of all Boro fans.
Adam Danks, Teesside

I'd just like to thank all the players and management team for making all our dreams become a reality. Can't wait for our first trip to Europe. Special thanks to Steve Gibson, he should be given a knighthood.
Ray Gregory

Well done to all the guys. Message to Bolo Zenden and Danny Mills. Get the pen to paper ASAP. You have both been outstanding all season, not just in the final. John, West Midlands

What a brilliant day and a brilliant result; the best day in the history of the club (so far!). Congratulations to Steve McClaren and all the team and fantastic to see Steve Gibson so delighted and acting like the Boro fan he is. This day has been so long in coming but well worth the wait, and we can never thank Steve Gibson and the lads enough for bringing us this day. Thanks also to all at Cardiff who made us feel so welcome. The atmosphere around the city before and after was superb, and the arrangements were really well organised. The Millennium Stadium is superb.
Paul Monaghan, London (ex-Thornaby)

No dreams left you have made them come true. Boro forever.
Ste Blair, Middlesbrough

Thanks for the game of my life.
Kenny Blair, Middlesbrough

A dream come true after 50 years of watching the Boro. Absolutely brilliant. Come on Boro!
Ken Blair, Middlesbrough

Many can make footprints in the sand, but Boro have made them in our hearts. Well done lads. You made our year.
Julie and Tony Haley, Middlesbrough

Well done. We proved on the day that we were the best. Regarding the penalty we scored from, can anyone say without modern technology that Bolo hit the ball twice before scoring? Big Sam made his comments on it but he didn't know which foot he first kicked the ball with. But he did say that we were the better team on the day. Looking forward to seeing them in Europe next season.
Bob Irwin

Well done Boro, I'm still stunned I can't put the feeling of what this means to me into words , but we deserved it and what a performance on the day. Well done lads, we've done it at last. There's only one Steve Gibson! We wouldn't have been here without him.
Paul Tillotson, Middlesbrough

Congratulations to everyone at Boro, thanks for the great memories of a beautiful day. I wasn't at Cardiff or even in my hometown, but I took part as best I could, watching on TV with my living room decked out in red and white and urging the Boro to victory.
Rita Tucker, Romford, Essex

I not really a big fan of football but I did listen to the final on Century on Sunday and I must say that my heart has never skipped so many beats. I am proud to come from Middlesbrough at the moment. Middlesbrough FC really did deserve to win because not only did the football club want it, the fans really wanted it too. Well done and keep up the good work. Congratulations again.
Kate Stubbs

Congratulations on an extraordinary day which will live in my memory forever!
Steven Smith, Thornaby

Thank you Boro for making a 30-year-old dream come true. February 29 2004 will never be forgotten. We are the champions. Europe here we come!
Steven Alan Prest, Guisborough

You little beauty! Good on you lads!
Jamie, Western Australia

Congratulations to all on a great game on Sunday. The win was a long time coming but it's been worth the wait. Hope this will be the first of many such successes from now on. Regards from a supporter since 1946.
Norman Collins

Fantastic. Got to say it was my happiest day as a Boro fan. Every single member and supporter deserved that day. Priceless.
Kitch, New Zealand

128 years it took; two minutes into the game and then the butterflies disappeared and the anticipation started. At 12am I was nervous as hell, it was one hour to kick-off and the memories of 97 flooded my head. The bitter memories of my dreams being undone on that fateful night, I knew however this night would be different. It was the best squad that had been assembled and I was hopeful of a much better result. After only two minutes I was out of the chair, into the air, waking half the neighbourhood. Come on Boro, come on Boro, come on Boro! And then as soon as the ref pointed at the spot, I knew the day of redemption was finally here. Witnessing the heartbreak of what happened the last time we made the League Cup final, I knew this time was different! In celebration am wearing a different strip everyday this week. From 1999 through to last years, a different one everyday to make sure everyone knows, we didn't just play a game, we won a cup. As soon as Mr Southgate lifted it I knew we had achieved what we have all craved for so long. Mr Gibson, Mr McClaren and the whole squad, the best day of my Boro supporting life, March 1 (I know, but I was in Australia!) was phenomenal. Congratulations and get those signings over the summer, then Europe will sit up and be shocked as we scream as one, "Come on Boro!"
Chris O'Carrigan, Sydney, Australia

Well done boys! My sister and I have been supporting the Boro since she was eight and I was 12. My Dad having two girls thought he had no chance but 13 years, three season tickets and four cup finals later we are still going strong. Sunday was the best game I have ever attended, mainly due to the outcome, but the whole day from start to finish was thoroughly enjoyable. I thought all of the players were outstanding and it would be very hard to pick a Man of the Match, although Zenden, Boateng and Queudrue were most outstanding. The team spirit looked far better than any Boro team I have ever seen and it was obvious they wanted to win for them and for the fans. And I'm not ashamed to admit the final whistle brought tears to my yes, for the right reasons this time. Let's hope now that we can do the job in the league and become the team we all know we deserve to be. Come on Boro!
Jennifer Moore, formerly of Stockton-on-Tees, now living in Sunderland

My father played for Boro in the 50s. I have supported them man and boy, this first trophy means so much, let's get some more!
Jim Hartnett, Ripon, North Yorkshire

You've made dreams come true! I hope you realise how much. Fans wear a silly grin on their faces, feet don't touch the ground when they walk, families don't argue amongst each other, kids are happy to do homework, people say hello to strangers in the street and are happy to go to work. More Boro babies are conceived. Hospital patients get better sooner, the whole town and area has a buzz! For Boro this is a perfect season - won a cup, into Europe, beaten Arsenal twice, won at the Theatre of Dreams, not been relegated! I don't see how it can be beaten. Cardiff was and is magnificent! Just going to watch my tape of the final for the seventh time so far. Oh dear, I feel my silly grin starting again! It's all thanks to you (team, manager, chairman),
Paul Gannan, Saudi Arabia

The final is one of my most exciting game I ever seen. That day also is my happiest day for recent years!
Holmes Cheng

Thank you so much for making Sunday February 29 2004 the greatest day of my life. I started crying tears of joy and once I had started I couldn't stop, I will never forget that day ever. Thank you.
Ste Allen, Middlesbrough

I am a 21 year old disabled Boro fan and I never miss a home game. Just watching the lads fills me with pride but this weekend I was in heaven. For as long as I knew football existed I have supported Boro and time and time again I have shed tears as I watched Boro's dreams of winning a major tournament get turned to dust. But on Sunday, in the City of Cardiff, standing with 40,000 screaming Boro fans, I watched Gareth Southgate raise the first major trophy in our history and tears covered my face again. I had never in my life felt better. I'd just watched every player give 100% and more for my football team. And as the lads raised Mr Middlesbrough himself, Steve Gibson, up in the air only one thing went through my mind. "I was there the day Boro won their first major trophy, I was there!" And that feeling will never leave me. God bless ever yone of those lads in that dressing room for giving us all what we so badly wanted and what Steve Gibson so badly deserved!
Dave Clark, Netherfields, Middlesbrough

To everyone at the Riverside and the club. Congratulations! It's been a long time coming but we finally got there. I've been waiting 24 years for this to happen and it finally has. Sunday was on par to my daughter being born, actually I tell a lie it was better. My old man and myself travelled from Torquay up to Cardiff for the game and it was the greatest match I've ever been privileged to watch, it has wiped out the horrible memories of 97 and 98. A big thanks goes out to Steve McClaren and the coaching staff, the players and of course to Mr Steve Gibson, to whom the whole Boro are indebted. If it wasn't for him the club wouldn't be here now. 128yrs of always being second best is over this year the Carling Cup, next year the UEFA Cup. Come on the Boro! Again a big thank you to you all because this is just the start of a new revolution.
Matt Gray, Torquay, Devon (us Boro fans are everywhere)

Congratulations to all the team and everyone associated with Middlesbrough FC. A fairytale start to be to goals up within seven minutes and after that a solid and professional performance. The Boro deserved the historic win. Special thanks to Gibbo for being such a unique chairman and Juno for showing amazing loyalty to the Boro. You both have now got your just rewards. Up the Boro!
Lyle Andrews, Hong Kong

Just wanted to say well done to the lads for making every Boro fan in Teesside, Cardiff and the world feel like they were walking on air Sunday evening/Monday morning. Still not sure if we are back to down earth. Can't fault any of the players but would like especially to congratulate Mark Schwarzer in making a brilliant comeback after his obvious disappointment from that goa'. He was brilliant and I think my Man of the Match. Let's hope we can march on to Europe with the same spirit that seems to be present at the moment. Long may it continue.
Tracey and Col, Boro

Seven years ago, I'd barely taken my seat (at Wembley) and we'd lost a cup final. Two days ago, I'd barely taken my seat (in the pub) and we'd won one. 128 years of waiting ended in seven magical minutes. Congratulations boys; what you did was truly inspirational. What a mix of players, what a manager, what a chairman, what a result, what a day (and boy, what a hangover!). Thanks guys.
Don and Tom Burton, Brentwood, Essex (hearts on Teesside)

Well done to all connected with the club following the Carling Cup match - a trophy well deserved. I just wish I could have got a ticket and been there to share it with you. A dream start, a great game and a dream finish. Congratulations, you deserve it.
Fran Martin, Basingstoke (formerly Acklam).

As a season ticket holder living away from the area, I have had to put up with some stick from time to time. Despite this I have always taken great pride in being a Boro fan. Sunday was special to me and thousands of others, Teesside pride at its best. Congratulations to all the players, supporters and staff of Middlesborough Football Club for a great achievement.
Trev Walker, Loughborough

I am now a Boro exile who can be found on St John Ambulance duty at Anfield and occasionally at Goodison. I was first at Ayresome Park when Clough and Peacock were playing. And I am delighted that we have silverware at last.
Mike Ward

What a day, one I and every other Boro fan will never forget, thank you.
Ann Wicks, Ormesby, Middlesbrough

Congratulations to all the players and staff, it was a match that had me on the edge of my seat! Never before have I felt like I did when the final whistle was blown. I live in Worcestershire and get some stick about being a Boro fan and no one could wipe the smile off my face, even the wife watched the game and she hates footy! Hopefully now we can keep Bolo and Millsy at the Riverside ready for Europe next season.
Chris Carter

I would like to add my congratulations to all the others that I'm sure have come in since that great day in Cardiff. As a Boro fan since 1969 when I was first taken to Ayresome Park by a friend, Geoff George of Thornaby. I have followed the many ups and downs with eternal optimism and I cannot describe the feelings of joy last Sunday when the dreams came true.
Dennis Oakley, Newtownards, Northern Ireland

To all the Middlesbrough FC players, coaches, Steve McClaren and especially Steve Gibson, thanks for such a magical, historic and emotional day in Cardiff on February 29 2004. Dreams do come true and the memories will be with us forever.
Karl, Dalian and Bev Churchill, Fairfield, Stockton-on-Tees

I am writing here to congratulate the Boro team who took on Bolton with fire in their hearts, they totally outclassed the Bolton side, who could do nothing but admire the great play produced by Boro. If they keep up the great work we could be looking at some more silverware next season. Also we should thank Steve McClaren for his excellent contribution as the Boro manager.
Glen Collins, Stockton-on-tees

I am from Finland and been an ardent Boro fan since 70s. All credit to Jack Charlton, but finally we have a team that more than match the promotion team. In addition to Mr Gibson I would like to devote this one to all Boro supporter who never lived to see this - like my former penfriend Austin Marsay from Great Ayton, who supported Boro for over 60 years without a trophy. Thank you, the team, a lot!
Jarkko Lehtinen, Vantaa, Finland

Congrats lads, still can't believe you done it. One of the most nerve-racking matches I've ever seen. Great job! Especially getting the two goals so early!
James Moorehead, Billingham

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing the Carling Cup to Middlesbrough. I had the best weekend of my life in Cardiff and wouldn't have missed it for the world. The memories will stay with me forever, and it is something I will treasure forever.
Sarah McGee, Stockton

I've been sitting here for an eternity thinking what to put down, how to explain my feelings as a Boro fan and how to thank Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren, the players and everyone involved with club. Words are not enough - the tear at full time was! Thanks.
Jamie Nixon, Redcar

We have waited a long time for this success and the way the team earned it was a tremendous credit to all involved. With the supporters, manager, team and chairman that we have the sky's the limit, let's go for it. Hope I can get a season ticket. Well done!
Doug Parker

Just want to say well done the Boro, it's a dream come true for myself and millions of other fans like me. I dont get to see matches but do follow the Boro on the radio. I watched the Carling Cup final on TV and was very impressed. I live in Whitley Bay so you can imagine I get some stick up here. But its okay, I'm Boro through and through. So it's worth it. Good luck in the future and thanks for a great final. Oh and thanks Mr Gibson for making a dream become a reality.
Gavin

Winning the Carling Cup final and being there to witness it was simply better than I could ever imagine it would be! It was one hell of a party atmosphere and I would like to thank everyone at the club, especially Steve Gibson. Quite a few years ago I used to hope that we would get some Arab Sheikh with lots of money to spend on the club. Well we went one better than that and ended up with Steve Gibson! Brilliant!
Andy Loughran, Coulby Newham

I just want to say congratulations to all the lads, you've done us all proud and we love you for it. Bring on Europe! And, also we love Bolo's hand-waving dance! We will definitely copy that every chance we get!
Sarah Loughran, Ingleby Barwick

Well done to the lads, a well deserved win and I would just like to say this cup is especially deserved for Sir Steve Gibson, well done.
Joanne

Well done Boro, couldn't get tickets for the game but did the next best thing, came down from Scotland for the weekend and watched the game in Jumping Jacks. Great afternoon, great evening, great result.
Robert Winsborough

Hey guys, you were great on Sunday it's about time we won something! I was so happy I nearly cried, it was so amazing to see you lift that cup. You all did great, I'm so proud to be a Boro fan! Franck, you seemed to go unnoticed when it came to who was chosen to be Man of the Match, but you had a great game, well you all did! The game was so good, well done!
Sarah Jowett, Harrogate

A big congratulations boys. 128 years of waiting is finally over. We have a trophy! No longer do us Middlesbrough fans have to hang our heads in shame every time the word "trophies" is mentioned. Good luck in the UEFA Cup next season, let's hope for a good first run. Keep up the good work for the rest of this season.
Simon Topham, Northamptonshire

The tension in the weeks leading up to the match and the time of pure torture waiting from the Bolton goal to the final whistle fades into insignificance. Boro's first cup puts them into an elite league of winners, something that has eluded us for too long. Whatever may follow, good or not so good, 29 02 2004 represents the dawn of the new age for the chairman and the club, for the town and the North East. Middlesbrough are champions.
John, Yarm

Just like to say a couple quick thank yous. Firstly to all the squad for playing their hearts out for us supporters, I was there and it was unreal. Secondly to Steve McClaren for all the things he's done with the team since he came. And lastly to Steve Gibson, for sticking with us through the good times and the bad when many other chairmen would have sold up and left. Thanks for everything.
Steven O'Neill, Redcar

The final was fantastic. I went with my grandad who is 78 soon and it will probably be his last game. It was unbelievable after watching us lose at Wembley to the success at Cardiff. It was the best day of my life! Thanks to everyone involved.
Garth Purver, Loftus

I'd like to thank all the players for giving me and all the fans a great day of exceptional football. I hope you know I cried for you boys. Keep up the good work.
Jake, Saltburn

Well done boys, I have been waiting 24 years (all my life) for this moment, I was a mascot at Ayresome Park when I was nine years old I met my now fiancée three years ago and she was not a football fan. Two weeks into our relationship I dragged her 60 miles up north (we live near York ) to the Riverside and ever since then she's been a Boro fan. So we came to Cardiff with my brother and his wife who had tickets, we could not get them, but had to travel to Cardiff to support the boys. It was worth every minute of our time and every penny of our hard-earned cash. So to the 11 men on the pitch who started the match, I speak from our hearts and I'm sure all the Boro fans, a big thank you for being such stars and making history for us. If any team on this planet deserve it, it's us, and especially, Steve Gibson and Juninho. I just hope you loan stars will stay with us now, now you have had a taste of how passionate it is on Teesside and how much it means to us to have you all playing in the famous Boro shirt.
Adam Burgess, Tracey Johnson, Julian and Sarah Burgess

Great day, great game, great result! To be there to see Boro win the first major trophy was fantastic and is an experience I'll never forget. Europe here we come!
Neil Walker, Belfast

You played really well as a team and deserved to win the cup by a mile. I am really pleased that we won a cup and all thanks to the players, chairman, manager (great manager) and especially all the players for playing very well. My Man of the Match had to be the goalie but they all played a big part in it. Well done!
Andy Malone, Liverpool but form Boro

Congratulations lads! Great game. You deserved to win.
Rachel Clayton, York

Seven years ago I cried tears of pain at Wembley, full time in Cardiff on February 29 2004 I cried tears of joy. Thank you to the players and staff for such an emotional day and above all thanks to my fellow fans whom made it such a wonderful once-in-128-year experience.
R Daniel Perry, Wolviston

I'm sorry to have been late so much in to congratulate you! But I'm a student, the exams are more important and I must study. Yes, I enjoyed very much with the match, I celebrated the goals screaming and jumping, in my house was impossible to have a siesta on Sunday afternoon! And the Spanish press told yesterday the victory in the cup, they talked very good about Boro and Mendi. I'm delighted for the victory and I hope the best for the team. Since Mendi arrived to Middlesbrough I have felt a Boro fan! Up the Boro!
Helena Rubio

To all the players and staff involved in the club, I would just like to say thank you. Thank you for giving all of us l fans something to really cheer about, thank you for your hard work, in training, in preparation and in that wonderful arena. It was a moving thing to see Middlesbrough Football Club rise to the challenge with even greater determination and spirit which we carried forward in 97/98. I raise a glass to Steve Gibson, Steve McClaren, his coaching team and all of the MFC squad who helped us to glory. Be proud, we all are. To the future!
Tom Metcalfe

I was at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and I thought Boro were fantastic and did us all proud. Being two goals up in seven minutes was unreal. But the best bit was when the final whistle finally blew and ended our 128-year wait. Congratulations to the whole team, whether they played or not, Steve McClaren, and most of all Steve Gibson - he's the best chairman any club could ask for. You have to keep telling yourself it's real and it's not a dream.
Rachael, Middlesbrough

I would like to pass on my congratulations to the Boro on a magnificent performance in the Carling cup final. Everyone, from the players to the manager to all the backroom staff were superb and the win was fully deserved. I'm also especially pleased for Mr Gibson, who has put so much money and hard work, but most importantly love into our great club. I've supported the Boro for 30 years, my father Ken for nearly 60 years - it was worth the wait, but try not to make it so long a wait next time. All the best.
Graeme and Ken Porter, Near Banbury, Oxon

Generations of Boro fans have lived and died without seeing their boys lift a trophy. Well not me. Not any more anyway. It was nail-biting, frustrating at times, but wonderful. What a great victory. I knew it was our time, I had been saying so all weekend, but no-one would believe me until the final whistle went (oh yeah, where did they get four minutes from?). It was the best ever. I flew in from San Diego for the match, it was incredible. Worth every penny and every minutes traveling time.
Terri Denning, San Diego, California

Well what a great match and result, enjoyed every minute. After around 55/60 years supporting the Boro can anyone tell me how to take success, I too think I need Bill Beswick's help. Congratulations to everyone at the Boro, Europe here we come. Come on Boro.
Alan Overton, Dormo, Belgium

Thank you one and all. The Boro squad of 2004 have made history, be very proud of what you all have done for the people off Teesside. I sat and cried at the final whistle for myself and for the people of Teesside. Now let's go and realise the hopes and dreams of Steve Gibson and the rest of Teesside.
Shaun

Thank you for making all our dreams come true.
Alan Palmer and family, Cumbria

Well done Boro on winning the Carling Cup, you played a great game and the goals were great. It was worth waiting 128 years for that game, you played a fabulous game and deserved to win. Hope you do equally as well in Europe.
Beverley Bartram

Well done Boro, finally winning a major trophy, never thought I'd live to see the day.
Gary Paxton, British Forces, Episkopi, Cyprus

Well done team, it has been along time coming. I have supported Boro from afar since the early 1970s when my late grandfather was a season ticket holder and sent me information. Self belief gained through a fine series of wins enables a team to kick on...go for it.
Trevor Knowles, Wellington, New Zealand

To the best club in the land. Congratulations. You have made everyone who supports the club the proudest in the country and I'm just so lucky to have been there. Now we want the FA Cup so go get it lads.
Craig Saunders, Thornaby

Brilliant weekend, Brilliant day, brilliant match, just brilliant. You boys did me proud, everyone of you. I knew this day would come, I have dreamt of it since I was 10 years old and now it will live with me forever. That's the first trophy, now let's get the rest of them!
Andy Clark, Billingham

To everyone connected with the Boro. Well, it was a great game down in Wales, The fans were out of this world, the team was the best there has ever been so far, the backroom boys Steve Mc, and most of all the chairman Mr Steve Gibson, who has had a lot of faith in the Boro. Keep it going.
Lamby, Sandy Beds

This ranks as one of the best days of my life. Everything about the day was perfect, well done boys! You did the whole of Teesside proud.
Wayne Cook, Billingham

You did a good job. This Carling Cup final is a pride for all Boro fans. It was little unfortunate that Gaizka Mendieta couldn't score a goal in the final. I am a big fan of Mendieta. Let's hope for the UEFA Cup. Go Boro go!
Manoj, Dallas, Texas, USA, orginally from India

I was privileged to watch the final with my 72-year-old parents. I am so grateful to have seen success in my lifetime, let alone theirs. Thank you all, now let's go on an
