BORO'S Stewart Downing and David Wheater have been selected for Fabio Capello's provisional 31-man squad ahead of England's friendlies against USA and Trinidad and Tobago.

If selected to play, Wheater would be making his full England debut and after a truly remarkable first full season in the Permier League.

Downing has been ever present for Boro this season and gets another chance to shine for England.

Having 17 caps to his name already, Downing will be hoping to make it 18 and attempt to open his goalscoring account after getting 10 from midfield for Boro this season.

England face USA at Wembley on May 28 and four days later on June 1 are away to Trinidad and Tobago.
