CENTRE-HALF Chris Riggott has been recalled from his loan spell at Stoke City to join the squad for Boro's crucial game against Portsmouth.

The 27-year-old former England U21 star has been playing a key role in the Potters' promotion push but Gareth Southgate wants him back at the Riverside as Boro look to banish their lingering relegation fears.

Riggott, an instrumental member of Boro's 2006 UEFA Cup final squad, lost his first team place after a series of injuries and the emergence of David Wheater.

But he has regained fitness and form during his time at the Britannia Stadium.

His loan was initially due to continue to the end of the season but he rejoined his Boro team-mates in training this morning after playing nine games for Stoke.
