Guisborough Town 0 Middlesbrough 0 AET (Middlesbrough win 4-1 on penalties)

MIDDLESBROUGH edged through to the next round of the North Riding Senior Cup on a bitterly cold night at the King George V Playing Fields last night.

Temperatures had plummeted in the hour before kick-off and there was already a crisp top to the surface when the game got underway.

It proved to be a largely chanceless and featureless affair which needed penalties to decide the outcome.

After both sides had failed to find the net within 120 minutes, Boro scored all their four penalties through Stephen Thompson, Joe Bennett, Jonathan Franks and Johnny Harris.

Guisborough's first penalty struck a post and Matty Atkinson saved two of the next three to ensure Middlesbrough's progress.

Team: Atkinson; Hillerby, Corker, Goulon, Williams, Bennett, Robinson, Franks, Thompson, Bonar (White 57), Cronesberry (Harris 57). Unused sub: Steele (gk).
