STEPHEN THOMPSON struck twice in the second half to secure a stunning comeback win against Liverpool at the weekend.

It was without question the result of the season so far as Martin Scott's men produced a magnificent performance, leaving the Merseysiders reeling.

Boro switched to an attacking 4-3-3 formation, giving England's Jonathan Franks a free role in midfield.

It was the home side who started the stronger and were rewarded with a well deserved goal when Theo Furness's crossfield ball found Ashley Corker, whose shot eluded keeper Dean Bouzanis.

But Liverpool hit back twice through Marvin Pourie to go into the break 2-1 up.

A tactical shake up at half time saw Franks move onto the right, while Richard Smallwood slotted into midfield.

Thompson
, pictured above in action against Northallerton last season, had looked threatening throughout the game and got his just rewards when he cut inside from the left and produced an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner to bring the scores level.

Boro found themselves ahead when Thompson climbed above the defence to head home from close range.

But the home side saved the best till last when Gary Martin finished off a magnificent move in which Nathan Porritt and Joe Bennett were instrumental.

The Liverpool defence had no answer to the sublime passing exchange which gave Martin the simplest of chances in the move of the match.
