TRIBUTES have been paid to former Boro Academy goalkeeper John Jackson, who died recently.

John, 28, from Yarm, who was known to friends as Jacko, also played for Billingham Synthonia and his previous clubs included Shildon, Spennymoor and Marske United.

He was due to be named Synners' Player of the Year but a dinner to present the award has now been cancelled as a mark of repsect.

Academy manager Dave Parnaby said: "We are very saddened to hear that John has passed away.

"He was one of the original members of our Academy when it was first established 10 years ago.

"Latterly he was a part-time goalkeeping coach at the Academy and his services were highly valued.

"John was a happy-go-lucky character who was great to have around the place.

"We extend our sympathies to his family and friends."

His funeral took place at 10am on Saturday May 10.
