ANGRY anchorman Jeff Stelling gave both barrels to a recent survey branding Middlesbrough the worst place in Britain to live.

Although actually from Hartlepool, the Sky Sports presenter clearly holds a soft spot for the Boro after working in the area during his early days in local radio.

And when Channel 4's Location, Location, Location named and shamed the town in its annual survey, Jeff was having none of it and left viewers of his Soccer Saturday in no doubt about his thoughts.

"The people who compile this tosh are the type who go north of Rickmansworth only to go to the Edinburgh Festival fringe and think everyone in the north lives in Coronation Street type terraces," he raved in a tongue-in-cheek outburst.

"They've never been to Middlesbrough, they don't know about the Cleveland Hills, they don't know about Roseberry Topping, they've never visited Captain Cook's monument, they've never been to MIMA, with all its Picassos."

He then lists famous sons and daughters of Middlesbrough including Brian Clough, Jonathan Woodgate, Chris Kamara, Paul Daniels and Roy Chubby Brown and even Corrie's Liz Dawn - even though the actress, who plays Vera Duckworth in the soap, is actually from Leeds!
