THE WHITE FEATHER certainly raised a few eyebrows when he signed for Boro from Italian giants Juventus in the summer of 1996.

The Perugia-born marksman smashed the club transfer record with a whopping £7m fee. He began to repay that fee immediately with a stunning hat-trick in his debut against Liverpool.

A relative latecomer to top flight soccer, Fabrizio did not make his first Serie A appearance until the age of 24 when Juventus paid £3m for his services.

An impressive 53 goals in his last two seasons helped Juve to the Italian title as well as the European Cup.

The White Feather went down a storm in his first season in the Premiership, bagging a total of 31 goals in league and cup.

Totally left-footed, he terrorised defences wherever he went. His shirt over the head celebration was copied all over the country.

Ravanelli was a controversial figure who publicly fell out with his team mates and, allegedly, criticised Boro via the Italian press.

Two games into the following Division One season he was off to Marseille ending a short, if memorable, Boro career.

Later played for Derby County and Dundee before returning to his homeland with Perugia.
