Boro 9 Brighton 0, August 23 1958
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION got a rude awakening in their first ever Division Two game when they travelled to AyresomePark - and were trounced 9-0!
The shell shocked visitors found a certain Brian Clough too hot to handle as he bagged five goals, with his strike partner Alan Peacock scoring twice.
Bill Harris scored the first of two penalties after just five minutes before Clough got his first 10 minutes later. Peacock added his name to the scoresheet soon after, before another Harris spot-kick and Clough's second gave Boro a convincing 5-0 half time lead.
And the scoring didn't stop there. Soon after the re-start Clough completed his hat-trick before going on to grab two more, the other goal coming from Peacock.
