Boro 4 Blackpool 0, November 22 1947
WILF MANNION didn't score any of the goals in this demolition of the seasiders - but his performance ensured the game went down in history as 'The Mannion Match'.
Almost 39,000 spectators packed AyresomePark to watch 'The golden Bot' rip Blackpool apart with a virtuoso performance.
He had a hand in all of the Boro goals, scored by Cec McCormack (2), Micky Fenton and Johny Sphuler, in what was an exhilarating all-round display.
The Gazette later reported; "Behind almost every Boro attack - and there were plenty of them - was the guile, the incomparable craft of a brilliant Mannion. Wilf was the consummate football artist."
