Former Boro Trio On Road To Legends
FANS have voted for the names of three former Riverside heroes to be included the next phase of the Boro Brick Road.
Uwe Fuchs, Gary Hamilton and Rolando Ugolini topped polls in which fans chose the next three ex-Boro players to be added to the popular feature outside the Riverside Stadium.
The club nominated 30 former stars, 10 each from three distinct eras - 1876-1966, 1966-86 and 1986-present. Through the club's mfc.co.uk website, fans were asked vote for one player in each category who they felt most deserved to join the names of 50 legends already in place on the Boro Brick Road.

More than 4,000 fans took part, with Italian-born goalkeeper Ugolini topping the 1876-1966 poll with 42.6% of the votes, well clear of his closest rivals, Lindy Delapenha (22%) and Eddie Holliday (7%). Ugolini played 335 times for Boro between 1948 and 1956.
Top of the 1966-86 poll was midfielder Gary Hamilton, part of the Boro side before and after the 1986 liquidation saga, playing 272 games for the club before being forced to retire aged just 23. He received 15.1% of the votes, marginally more than Craig Johnston (14.5%) and Terry Cochrane (13.7%).

The closest vote came in the 1986-present era. German striker Uwe Fuchs, the scorer of nine goals in 13 starts to inspire Boro to promotion in the club's last ever season at Ayresome Park, finishing top with 19.1% of the votes, 0.1% ahead of Brazilian Emerson, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink third (14.5%).
The names of the three winners will now be inscribed onto bricks that will be laid in the next phase of the road before the start of the 2007-08 season. More than 5,000 bricks dedicated to supporters and former stars and managers are already in place.

Bricks cost from £39.95 with order forms available from the club's official website, the MFC Retail stores and the Riverside Stadium reception.
